Women’s Tennis Earns 6-3 GLVC Win Over Southern Indiana

Flyers improve to 4-0 in conference action

Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University women's tennis team won a 6-3 decision against Southern Indiana on Sunday (Apr. 10) afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex. 

With the win, the Flyers are now 9-4 (4-0 GLVC). The Screaming Eagles drop to 5-12 (2-3 GLVC).

Lewis freshman Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) and junior Katie Hargrove (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) defeated Michelle Girgenti and Lindsey White, 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.

Kranczicki earned a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over Girgenti at No. 1 singles.

Flyer freshman Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) and junior Bayley Brown (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Central) won 9-8 at No. 2 doubles over Ellena Stumpf and Morgan Conquerille. 

Lanstiak was victorious at No. 2 singles over White, 7-5, 6-1 while Brown defeated Logan Ackerman, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 5 singles.

At No. 3 doubles, the Lewis duo of Clare Kessler (Onalaska, Wis./Aquinas) and Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill./York) earned a 9-8 win over Ackerman and Stephanie Smith.

“Sweeping all three doubles matches was critical in today's outcome,” Lewis head women's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. “It was a hard fought win because USI was determined to make shots and make us play.”

The Flyers are back in action on Wednesday (Apr. 13), hosting Chicago State at 3 PM.
