Romeoville, Ill. -
The Lewis University women's tennis team was faced with the tough task of beating Division I Chicago State after they had lost the doubles point, but the Flyers rallied to win four singles matches en route to the 4-3 non-conference victory over the visiting Cougars at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex on Wednesday (Apr. 13) afternoon.

Wednesday's match was under Division I rules, where two doubles wins is equivalent to one team point. Chicago State was unable to play at No. 6 singles, which automatically gave Lewis a point heading into singles play.

"We did not play well at doubles, but rose to the occasion in singles play," Lewis head women's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "We need to learn from today and play better from the opening point."

With the win, Lewis improves to 10-4, while the visiting Cougars are now 7-14.

Lewis freshman Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) picked up the 6-2, 6-1 win over Chicago State's Dian Mayasari at No. 1 singles. The Flyers also received a 6-2, 7-5 win from Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) at No. 2 singles over Juan Rosalia Tejoprayitno.

Lewis sophomore Jody Wagner (Avon, Ohio/Avon) clinched the win for the Flyers at No. 5 singles with the 6-0, 6-0 whitewash over Mysta Townsell.
