Romeoville, Ill. – In less than 24 hours after a loss to Indianapolis, the Lewis University women's tennis team bounced back with the 8-1 win over visiting Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday (Apr. 2) afternoon at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex.
With the win, the Flyers improve to 5-4 while the Tritons drop to 3-6.
“The ladies really responded well to yesterday's loss,” head women's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. “They did a great job in doubles and played very well in singles even with the windy, cold conditions.
“We took a positive step forward after a step back and that is always encouraging.”
Lewis freshmen Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) and Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) continued their hot play with the 8-1 win over Louisa Werner and Pujitha Bandi at No. 1 doubles.
Kranczicki defeated Werner, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles while Lanstiak earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Bandi at No. 2 singles.
Flyer juniors Bayley Brown (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Central) and Katie Hargrove (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) claimed victory at No. 2 doubles over Katie Rynkiewich and Leticia Garcia, 8-3. Hargrove won a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Rynkiewich at No. 3 singles and Brown defeated Annie Gonzalez, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
At No. 3 doubles, Flyer freshman Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and sophomore Jody Wagner (Avon, Ohio/Avon) earned the 8-5 win over Gonzalez and Kristiana Lazarova. Mills later defeated Lazarova, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
The Flyers are back in action on Tuesday (Apr. 5), hosting Illinois-Springfield at 1 PM at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex.
