Women’s Tennis Rolls Past UIS, 9-0

Kranczicki/Lanstiak win sixth-straight match at No. 1 doubles.

– The Lewis University women's tennis team cruised their way to a 9-0 victory over Illinois-Springfield on Tuesday (Apr. 5) afternoon in a non-conference match at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex.  

With the win, the Flyers improve to 6-4 while the Prairie Stars fall to 3-9.

Lewis freshmen Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) and Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) earned an 8-3 win over Druvinka Moraes and Jane Brown at No. 1 doubles.   

Kranczicki defeated Moraes, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles while Lanstiak earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Brown at No. 2 singles.

Flyer juniors Bayley Brown (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Central) and Katie Hargrove (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) claimed victory at No. 2 doubles over Brooke Tweedy and Claire Connor, 8-1. Hargrove won a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Tweedy at No. 3 singles and Brown defeated Heather Niemann, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.

At No. 3 doubles, Lewis' Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and Clare Kessler (Onalaska, Wis./Aquinas) earned an 8-0 win over Niemann and Jessica Miller. Mills defeated Miller, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

Lewis sophomore Jody Wagner (Avon, Ohio/Avon) won a 6-1, 3-6, 10-1 decision at No. 4 singles over Connor.

The Flyers are back in action on Friday (Apr. 8), hosting Kentucky Wesleyan at 10 AM and Ferris State at 2 PM.
