Springfield, Ill. -
The Lewis University men's soccer team displayed both an offensive and defensive prowess against UIS on Friday (Sept. 16) night, as three different Flyers scored and goalkeeper Alec Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence ) (Mokena, Ill./Providence) pitched his first career shutout in the 3-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference whitewash over the Prairie Stars at Kiwanis Stadium.

Lewis senior Boris Brnada (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood/Aquinas) and freshman Dale Malcolm-Adams (London, England/Isleworth & Syon) (London, England/Isleworth & Syon) each scored their first career goals for the Flyers, while sophomore Cristhian Ramirez (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling/Emerald Coast United Academy) pitched in a goal and an assist. Pickett made two saves in between the pipes to secure the Flyer shutout.

"It was a sloppy game and we're still not doing some things well," Lewis head coach Evan Fiffles said. "A couple of guys came off the bench today and played well, but it's always nice to get a clean sheet.

"Now we need to get a shutout streak going."

With the win, Lewis improves to 2-3 on the season and 2-1 in GLVC action, while the host Prairie Stars are now 0-4 on the campaign and 0-3 in conference play.

Brnada put the Flyers on the board first at the 18:22 mark, as he headed in a pass from senior Aloisio Barros (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Pampulha) (Belo Horizonte,  Brazil/Colegio Pampulha/Marshaltown C.C.) to give the Flyers the 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The score would remain that way for the next 42 minutes, before Ramirez headed in a deflection off UIS goalkeeper Jack Turnanchik (7 saves) at the 60:25 mark to extend the Flyers lead to 2-0.

A little over two minutes later, Ramirez would play a part in the Flyers' final goal of the game, as he found Malcolm-Adams for his first career tally at the 62:37 mark.

Lewis' defense limited UIS to four shots on the evening, with only two of those shots on frame. Lewis collected 15 shots, 10 of which were on goal.

The Flyers return to action on Sunday (Sept. 18), as Lewis takes on Quincy for a 2:30 p.m. (CST) start.
