No. 22 Lewis Women’s Volleyball Makes Quick Work Of Bellarmine

Flyers dominate Knights

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Behind a .373 to .093 hitting percentage edge, No. 22 Lewis women's volleyball swept Bellarmine 25-13, 25-14, 25-18 on Friday evening at Neil Carey Arena. The match was aired live on Lakeshore Public Television.

Junior Jen Krumwiede (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial/IPFW) led Lewis with 13 kills and a .500 attack percentage. She added seven digs. Senior Hannah Koeneman (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan) (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan) hit .412 with nine kills. Senior Danielle Mount (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) had seven blocks (one solo) along with five kills. She helped the Flyers hold an 8-1 edge in blocks.

Mount moved into sixth place all-time at Lewis in blocks with 278. She passed Kim Richards (Evergreen Park, Ill./Mother McAuley)' (2006-09) 277.

“We've worked really hard on team chemistry and how to play as more of a unit versus six individuals and tonight everybody had a great game,” head coach Lorelee Smith said.

The Flyers dominated the opening frame with a .444 to -.071 attack percentage advantage. Lewis took a 16-8 edge in the second set and never looked back. A 5-0 run early in the third frame turned a 4-2 Bellarmine advantage into a 7-4 Lewis lead. Koeneman had a kill for point 25.

It's the 26th consecutive victory for Lewis over Bellarmine. The Knights fall to 6-4 and 2-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lewis improves to 7-4 and 3-3 in the GLVC. The Flyers host No. 12 Northern Kentucky on Saturday. First serve is slated for 3 p.m.
