Louisville, Ky. -
Lewis University senior Robens Decius (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Glades) (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Glades/East Central College) scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute to break a 2-all tie and help the visiting Flyers stave off a late Bellarmine rally for the 3-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over the Knights at O.B. Frazier Stadium on Friday (Sept. 30) night.

Decius gathered in a rebound off of a shot from Flyer freshman George Thomson (Kilmarnock, Scotland/Reid Kerr College) (Kilmarnock, Scotland/Reid Kerr College) that hit the post. The Florida native collected himself and snuck it past Bellarmine goalkeeper Blake Hunter for the game-winner at the 82:20 mark.

"It's nice to start off the weekend with a 'W'," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said. "We're creating chances to score, and I think this is our sixth-straight game with at least 15 shots.

"We had a lot of opportunities and tonight we made the most of them."

With the win, Lewis improves to 4-5 on the season and 4-3 in GLVC action, while the host Knights are now 4-5 on the campaign and 3-4 in conference play.

Decius assisted on the Flyers' first goal of the game as he found senior Aloisio Barros (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Pampulha) (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Pampulha/Marshaltown C.C.) for the score at the 30:49 mark.

Lewis would extend their lead to 2-0 in the 54th minute, as Thomson scored on a direct kick from 20 yards out that found the upper right corner of the goal.

Bellarmine came charging back as they scored a pair of goals in less than three minutes to even the score up at two. Cole Page converted a penalty kick at the 71:19 mark to narrow the Flyers' advantage to 2-1. The Knights would strike again in the 73rd minute, as Robert Bowling beat Flyer keeper Alec Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence ) (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) in the upper right hand corner of the net.

Pickett finished the game with four saves, while Hunter made three stops in goal for the Knights.

Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Oct. 2), as the Flyers travel to Highland Heights, Ky., to square off with defending National Champions, Northern Kentucky. First kick is set for 11 a.m. (CST).
