ALL TIME SERIES - Since Lewis entered the Division II ranks, the Flyers hold a 42-38 advantage over Quincy in their all-time series.
LAST TIME WE MET - Quincy rallied from a 13-point, first-half deficit for the 76-73 victory over the Flyers at the Pepsi Center on February 17, 2011. Lewis junior point guard
Chris McClellan (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Wheeling) led four Flyer players in double-figures with 21 points and five three-pointers.
LAST TIME OUT - For the second-straight game, the Lewis University men's basketball team was done in by the three-pointer, as Missouri-St. Louis converted 47.6% (10-for-21) of their long-range attempts, as the Tritons extended their winning streak to nine games with the 70-61 GLVC victory over the Flyers at Chuck Smith Court on Saturday (Jan. 7) afternoon.
FRESH FROSH - Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) and
Julian Lewis (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) are the first pair of freshmen that
Scott Trost has ever started in his 15 years as a head coach.
STREAK STOPPERS - A win over Quincy would help Lewis avoid opening the GLVC season with five-straight conference losses, which has never happened in the Division II era.
FROM WAY DOWNTOWN - Lewis is 22-7 (.759) since 2006-07 when they knock down at least 50.0% of their three-point attempts (min. 5 made).
HONORING HIS BROTHER - Junior guard
David Bryant (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) wears the number 12 in honor of his late brother Kevin who played for Trost at Illinois Wesleyan from 2004-06.
NOT MY BROTHER - Senior forward
Justin Jarosz (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) and freshman guard
Jeff Jarosz (Lyons, Ill./Morton) are not related.
IN IT UNTIL THE END - The score was either tied or Lewis held a lead with under one minute left in three of the Flyers' four losses this season.
PLAYING CLEAN - As of January 8th, Lewis is ranked fourth in the nation, averaging 14.1 fouls-per-game. Lewis is currently averaging 17.3 free throws-per-game, while their opponents are getting to the charity stripe just 12.3 times per game.
BIRDDOGGIN' THE HAWKS - McClellan is averaging 14.2 points-per-game and shooting 57.6% (15-for-26) in five career contests against Quincy.
DEFENSIVE CLAMPS - Lewis has held seven opponents this season to under 60 points. The Flyers accomplished that same feat for the entire 2010-11 campaign.
DEFENSIVE CLAMPS (PART DEUX) - The Flyers' stingy defense has forced the offense to take their shots outside, as Lewis' opponents are averaging 55 shots-per-game, with 21 of those shots coming from beyond the three-point arc.
CLEANING UP THE GLASS - Lewis leads the Flyers and is tops among GLVC freshmen with 5.6 rebounds-per-game. Former Lewis standout
Austin Real (Aurora, Ill./Aurora West) was the last freshman to lead the Flyers in rebounding with 6.8 boards-per-game in 2000-01.
HE'S NO SAMSON - Senior forward
Lonnie Lawrence (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) is sporting a new look, as the Bloomington, Ill., native has cut his trademark braids. Since the trim, Lawrence is averaging 8.7 points and 5.3 rebounds-per-game, while shooting 71.4% (10-for-14) in his last three contests.
CAN WE SHOOT IT? YES WE CAN - Lewis is shooting 38.8% from three-point range this season, while their opponents are connecting on just 38.7% of their total field goal attempts. That defensive field goal percentage leads the GLVC and is 12th in the country.
CLOSE CALLS - During Trost's career at Lewis, the Flyers are 25-25 (.500) in games decided by five points or less, which accounts for 31.8% of the 157 games he has coached in.
POUNDING THE GLASS - Lewis is 14-3 (.824) when senior forward
Matt Toth (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) leads the team in rebounding during his career.
