Complete Game Notes

Romeoville, Ill. -
The Lewis University men's basketball team bounces back for game two of its three-game homestand in five days, as the Flyers (9-4, 1-4 GLVC) welcome UIS (6-8, 3-2 GLVC) to Neil Carey Arena for a 7:45 p.m. (CST) tip-off on Saturday (Jan. 14) night.
The game will be broadcast on WJOL (1340 AM) with Mark Vasko providing the play-by-play analysis for the Lewis Sports Network. Live stats, audio and video streaming can be found at www.LewisFlyers.com.

ALL TIME SERIES - Since Lewis entered the Division II ranks, the Flyers and Prairie Stars have each won three games.

LAST TIME WE MET - Despite a double-double from Matt Toth (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) (25 points, 11 rebounds) and 20 points from Chris McClellan (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Wheeling), Lewis was unable to clinch the GLVC North Division title, as UIS earned the 78-70 win over the visiting Flyers on February 19, 2011.

LAST TIME OUT - Lewis went on a 27-11 run over the final 8:52 to claim the 75-59 win over Quincy at Neil Carey Arena on Thursday (Jan. 12) night. Lewis freshman guard Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) led the Flyers with 18 points, including a season-high four three-pointers.

FRESH FROSH - Jackson and Julian Lewis (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) are the first pair of freshmen that Scott Trost has ever started in his 15 years as a head coach.

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN - Lewis is 22-7 (.759) since 2006-07 when they knock down at least 50.0% of their three-point attempts (min. 5 made).

HONORING HIS BROTHER - Junior guard David Bryant (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) wears the number 12 in honor of his late brother Kevin who played for Trost at Illinois Wesleyan from 2004-06.

CLEANING UP THE GLASS - Lewis is tops among GLVC freshmen with 5.4 rebounds-per-game.

NOT MY BROTHER - Senior forward Justin Jarosz (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) and freshman guard Jeff Jarosz (Lyons, Ill./Morton) are not related.

POUNDING THE GLASS - Lewis is 14-3 (.824) when Toth leads the team in rebounding during his career.

HE'S NO SAMSON - Senior forward Lonnie Lawrence (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) is sporting a new look, as the Bloomington, Ill., native has cut his trademark braids. Since the trim, Lawrence is averaging 8.3 points and 6.8 rebounds-per-game in four contests.

IN IT UNTIL THE END - The score was either tied or Lewis held a lead with under one minute left in three of the Flyers' four losses this season.

WELCOME BACK - UIS head coach Ben Wierzba served as an assistant coach for Lewis from 2004-06.

PLAYING CLEAN - As of January 8th, Lewis is ranked fourth in the nation, averaging 14.1 fouls-per-game. Lewis is currently averaging 17.5 free throws-per-game, while their opponents are getting to the charity stripe just 12.4 times per game.

DEFENSIVE CLAMPS - Lewis has held eight opponents this season to under 60 points. The last time the Flyers accomplished that feat came during the entire 2007-08 season.

DEFENSIVE CLAMPS (PART DEUX) - The Flyers' stingy defense has forced the offense to take their shots outside, as Lewis' opponents are averaging 55 shots-per-game, with 21 of those shots coming from beyond the three-point arc.

DEFENSIVE CLAMPS (PART TROIS) - Kentucky Wesleyan is averaging 95.2 points-per-game (as of Jan. 8), which is second in the country for scoring offense. Lewis held them to a season-low 74 points on December 3rd.

CAN WE SHOOT IT? YES WE CAN - Lewis is shooting 39.4% from three-point range this season, while their opponents are connecting on just 38.7% of their total field goal attempts. That defensive field goal percentage leads the GLVC and is 12th in the country (as of Jan. 8).

CLOSE CALLS - During Trost's career at Lewis, the Flyers are 25-25 (.500) in games decided by five points or less, which accounts for 31.6% of the 158 games he has coached in.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER - Sophomore guard Nick Valla (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) had missed his first nine three-point attempts in a Flyer uniform before going 3-for-4 from beyond the arc in Thursday's win over Quincy.
