Complete Game Notes

Lewis women's hoops (3-10, 1-4 GLVC) hosts the Prairie Stars of UIS (6-7, 1-4 GLVC) on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena. The contest is the middle of a three games in five-day stretch for Lewis.

AGAINST THE PRAIRIE STARS - Lewis is 4-1 all-time against UIS.

LAST TIME WE MET - UIS defeated Lewis 72-69 in the 2010-11 regular season finale on Feb. 19, 2011 in Springfield, Ill. Lewis cut a late 10-point deficit to one in the final minute but couldn't complete the comeback. It was Lewis' last loss before winning four straight in the GLVC Tournament to win the 2010-11 championship.

DOING THE LITTLE THINGS - Freshman Kristen Itschner earned her first career start on Thursday against Quincy and made a dent in each column of the box score. She finished with four points, four steals, a rebound, an assist and a block.

FOR STARTERS - The insertion of Itschner into the startling lineup gave Lewis their seventh starting combination of the season.

MINUTE BY MINUTE - Itschner was one of three Flyers to play a season high in minutes on Thursday against Quincy. Itschner played 24 minutes while Hannah Koeneman (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan) logged 13 and Diamond Lane (Maplewood, Minn./South) played 11.

JOHNSON... - In conference games only, freshman Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) ranks 10th in the GLVC in assists per game (3.40). She is the only freshman in the top 15 in the category. She recorded seven assists against Maryville on Jan. 5, a career-best for the young Flyer.

& JOHNSON - If Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) gets a steal in a game, you can count on her to get another. In the six contests she's grabbed a steal, she's never just one, always two or more. She had four against UMSL on Saturday, one short of her season-high of five at Ferris State.

BETTER STATESIDE - Senior Madeline Kish (Oak Forest, Ill./Sandburg) has made a 3-pointer in every game this season, except the two the Flyers played in Hawaii (vs. BYU-Hawaii and Northeastern State).

YOUNG BY THE NUMBERS - Lewis' eight newcomers have combined to play 1128 minutes, or 42.5 percent of the available court time. The newcomers have scored 292 points, or 35.5 percent of Lewis' 822 points.

REJECTED - Sophomore Lauren Mead (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) ranks fourth in the GLVC in blocked shots per game with a 1.38 average. She's recorded a block in all but two games this year. She totaled four against McKendree on Nov. 14.

PERFECT FROM BEYOND THE ARC - Lewis made all five of their second half 3-point attempts against Southern Indiana on Dec, 1. The last time Lewis made every 3-point attempt in a half was when the Flyers drained all five attempts in the first half against Butler on Nov. 21, 2004. Lewis dropped the game at Hinkle Fieldhouse 71-59.

TAKING IT AWAY - The Flyers recorded 20 steals against BYU-Hawaii on Nov. 24th. It was the first time Lewis earned 20 steals in a game since recording 20 at Kentucky Wesleyan on Jan. 20, 2005.

ADDING AN ALL-AMERICAN - Hannah Koeneman (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan) joined the Lewis women's basketball team on Dec. 8. The name might be familiar to those around the GLVC as she was an American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Third Team selection as a senior right side hitter for Lewis in 2011. Koeneman recorded a team-high 299 kills with 91 blocks for the Flyers in 2011 and helped Lewis to a 25-7 record. The 6-2 forward with junior status for basketball last played organized basketball in high school.

THREE GAMES, FIVE DAYS - UW-Parkside makes the short drive south to play the Flyers on Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 16 to conclude Lewis' three games in five-day stretch. Lewis only has four home games the rest of the season following the stretch.
