HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Lewis women's basketball lost to Northern Kentucky 59-44 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at the Bank of Kentucky Center on Saturday (Jan. 21) afternoon. It was a single-digit game for the vast majority of the game until the Norse pushed their advantage to 15 points in the game's final minutes.

The Norse appeared to be pulling away late in the first half when they went up by 10 points. Lewis cut the advantage to 22-20 with 40 seconds remaining in the half thanks to an 8-0 run. Freshman Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) scored five points in the stretch. NKU would add two points to their lead to take a 24-20 advantage to the half.

The Norse took their first double-digit lead of the second half with 5:57 remaining at 50-39 before a pair of layups by freshman Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) put Lewis back in the contest at 50-43. The road GLVC win wasn't to be, as the Norse allowed the Flyers to score just one point down the stretch to pull away from the Flyers.

Reinhart led Lewis with 12 points and on 5-of-8 shooting while recording eight rebounds and two steals. Reinhart has scored in double-digits in each of her last four games.

Junior Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) added seven points with six rebounds (four offensive).

"It was a better game than the 15-point difference indicates," Lewis head coach Lisa Carlsen said. "Untimely turnovers and some missed quality shots did us in today."

NKU improves to 13-4 (6-3 GLVC) while Lewis falls to 4-13 (2-7 GLVC). The Flyers host Indianapolis on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. the game will be aired live on Lakeshore Public Television.
