Romeoville, Ill. - The third-straight game against a ranked opponent proved to be the charm, as the Lewis University men's basketball team rallied behind seniors Chris McClellan (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Wheeling) (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Wheeling), Matt Toth (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) and Lonnie Lawrence (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) to earn the 78-66 Great Lakes Valley Conference overtime victory over No. 21 Indianapolis at Neil Carey Arena on Thursday night.

Toth scored five of his 13 points in overtime, while McClellan posted a game-high 25 points, including six assists and four three-pointers in the win. Lawrence came off the bench and contributed nine points and 11 rebounds in the victory. Last week, Lewis lost a pair of contests to both No. 2 Bellarmine and No. 9 Northern Kentucky.

"It's great to win a close game," Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "I'm proud and happy for our guys, because we hung together and found a way to get a win.

"This is a really good win for us and a quality win for us."

With the win, Lewis improves to 12-6 on the season and 4-6 in GLVC action, while the visiting Greyhounds are now 14-4 on the campaign and 7-3 in conference play. The win marked the Flyers' first win over a ranked opponent since Lewis upset No. 24 Kentucky Wesleyan, 86-81, on January 29, 2011. Previously this season, UIndy had defeated the No. 1 team in the nation twice.

Indianapolis senior forward Wilbur O'Neal led the Greyhounds with 19 points, followed by 16 from sophomore guard Miles Mitchell and 12 from senior guard Adrian Moss.

Moss, the reigning GLVC Player of the Week, came into Thursday night's contest averaging 20.4 points-per-game, which was good for second in the conference. He was held to a 4-for-13 shooting performance, including six turnovers. Moss' backcourt mate Reece Cheatham, who entered Thursday's game averaging 13.5 points-per-game, was held to four points on 1-for-11 shooting. UIndy was able to muster just three field goals over the final 15 minutes of the contest.

In the overtime session, UIndy got on the board first, as O'Neal converted a lay-up on the Greyhounds' first possession. After that, it was all Flyers, as Lewis went on a 13-0 run over the next four minutes to secure the victory. During the extra session, Lewis went 10-for-12 from the free throw line.

In regulation, the Greyhounds seemed to be in control of the game, as they held a 55-44 advantage over the Flyers with 10:55 remaining. Lewis, however, answered with a 16-3 run over the next 9:30 to take a 60-58 lead with two minutes left in the second half. During that stretch, McClellan led the charge with six points.

Cheatham helped move the game into overtime for UIndy, as he drew a foul with 1:02 left in the contest and hit both of his charity shots to even the score up at 60.

Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 28), as the Flyers head to Rensselaer, Ind., to square off with Saint Joseph's for a 3 p.m. (CST) tip-off.
