St. Louis, Mo. - For the second-straight game, the Lewis University men's basketball team was done in by the three-pointer, as Missouri-St. Louis converted 47.6% (10-for-21) of their long-range attempts, as the Tritons extended their winning streak to nine games with the 70-61 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the Flyers at Chuck Smith Court on Saturday (Jan. 7) afternoon.
In the past two games, Flyer opponents have connected on 24 trifectas, with both contests against Maryville and UMSL serving as team-season highs by a Lewis opponent.
UMSL junior forward Charlie Woods led the Tritons with 18 points and seven rebounds, including four three-pointers, while senior guard Troy Long added 17 points in the win. Triton freshman Jack Connors (2 3PT FG) and senior guard Justin Hightower (3 3PT FG) each scored 10 points off the bench.
"I thought we played well, but UMSL hit some big shots," Lewis head men's basketball coach
Scott Trost said. "I can't fault our effort, because I thought we played hard today against a very good team.
"We just need to stay positive because there's a lot of basketball left."
With the victory, UMSL improves to 9-3 overall and 5-0 in conference play, while the visiting Flyers are now 8-4 on the campaign and 0-4 in GLVC action.

Lewis returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 12), as the Flyers welcome Quincy to Neil Carey Arena for a 7:45 p.m. (CST) tip-off.
