Lewis Men's Soccer Suffers 3-0 Defeat to Quincy

The Flyers were out-shot but earned more corners in the game.

Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Quincy on Friday (Oct. 12) at Lewis Stadium. 

The Flyers fall to 5-8 on the season and 5-6 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action while the Hawks improve to 9-1-3 on the year, 7-1-3 in the GLVC. 

Quincy took a 2-0 lead into halftime, getting their first goal in the 33rd minute by Jordan Roberts with an assist by Jeff Vaninger. The Hawks' second goal came in the 40th minute, scored by Vaninger and assisted by Roberts.

Lewis earned more corners than Quincy, 7-6, while the Hawks out shot the Flyers, 9-8. 

Quincy added a third goal in the 72nd minute, when Nate Heryford headed in a cross from Carl Hoges, who was deep in the right side corner of the field. 

Robert McGowan (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) had Lewis' only shot on goal. Alec Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence) had three saves and allowed all three of Quincy's goals.

Lewis is back in action on Sunday (Oct. 14) when Illinois Springfield comes to Lewis Stadium. Kick off is set for 12 PM.
