Hillsdale, Mich. - The Lewis University women's swim team fell in their first meet of the 2012-13 season to Grand Valley State, 177-57, and host Hillsdale, 160-63, on Saturday (Oct. 20).
"Today was a good start to our season," Lewis head swimming coach
Roger Karns said. "We had some very good swims from our upperclassmen as well as from the freshmen."
Freshman
Kinsey Coble (Lafayette, Ind.) secured a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle when she posted a time of 54.79. Coble also took fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (25.31).
Montana Clasby (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) notched two second-place finishes during the meet for the Flyers. Clasby took second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:16.80) and in 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.93).
Cindy Jezuit (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) took third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.25.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the Flyer relay team of
Hannah Yancey (Orange Park, Fla./Ridgeview), Clasby,
Caitlyn Scheirer (Washington, Ill./Washington Community) and Jezuit finished fouth (1:54.83).
Emily Heine (Madison, Miss./Madison Central),
Mackenzie Kummer (Addison, Ill./Addison Trail),
Elizabeth Harris (Albuquergue, N.M./La Cueva) and Coble worked together to finish fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:44.83).
"As always, there are areas of improvement for the next few weeks of training," Karns said. "In all, it was a great start for the season."
Lewis' next meet is the Notre Dame College Division II Invite in Geneva, Ohio, on Saturday (Oct. 27).
