Louisville, Ky. - The Lewis University women's volleyball team suffered their third Great Lakes Valley Conference road loss of the season on Friday (Oct. 26) in the five-set loss to Bellarmine (24-26, 25-22, 21-25, 25-21, 16-14) at Knights Hall.
The Flyers dropped their only five-set GLVC match of the season to fall to 17-9 on the season and 9-3 in GLVC action while the Knights improved to 14-5, 9-3 in the GLVC. On Sept. 29
th, the Flyers defeated the Knights at Neil Carey Arena, 3-1.
Senior
Carly Perschnick (Dwight, Ill./Dwight Township) had a double-double with 18 kills and 10 blocks as a middle hitter. Freshman outside hitter
Cassidy Parsons (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) led the Flyers with 18 kills.
“Carly and Cassidy showed early that offensively they came ready to play tonight,” Lewis head women's volleyball coach
Lorelee Smith said. “Coming off the bus today, some of our players couldn't find a way to regroup to play well against Bellarmine.”
Freshman
Lauren O'Brien (Verona, Wis./Verona Area) also added 10 kills for the Flyers.
Junior libero
Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) had 31 digs for the Lewis defense while senior
Colleen Mitros (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) added 12. Sophomore setter
Leigh Barea (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) had 57 of Lewis' 63 assists in the five-set contest.
“This game was not like us,” Smith said. “On Bellarmine's side of the court, everyone wanted to play.”
Lewis continues on the road in GLVC action on Saturday (Oct. 27) when the squad plays at McKendree in Lebanon, Ill. First serve is set for 3 PM.
