Lebanon, Ill. – Senior Carly Perschnick (Dwight, Ill./Dwight Township) put together her fourth-straight game earning double-digit kills to lead the Lewis University women's volleyball past Great Lakes Valley Conference foe McKendree, 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-21) on Saturday (Oct. 27).

The Flyers improve to 18-9 on the season and 10-3 against GLVC teams, while the Bearcats fall to 12-14, 6-7 in the GLVC.

Perschnick had 15 kills and three blocks for the Flyers offense. Cassidy Parsons (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) and Kim Vertin (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) each added eight kills.

“Carly has found a groove,” Lewis head women's volleyball coach Lorelee Smith said. “She has been working hard and mixing up where she is hitting from which makes it hard for teams to stop her.”

The Flyers jumped on the Bearcats early, when Katie Fuerst (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) opened the second set with four consecutive serves. Mary Carroll (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) also had four serves to help the Flyers build up to a seven-point lead to win the second set, 25-18.

“The team did a good job jumping out early,” Smith said. “The leads allowed us to stay ahead when we suffered mental mistakes.”

Sophomore Leigh Barea (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) had 27 assists, four kills and one block. Libero Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) led the Flyer defense with 26 digs while Fuerst added 12.

Lewis continues on the road in GLVC action on Tuesday (Oct. 30) when the team travels Somers, Wis., to play rival UW-Parkside at 7 PM.
