Big Rapids, Mich. - The defense of the Lewis University men's basketball team continues to give Ferris State fits, as the Flyers held the host Bulldogs to 33.3% (16-for-48) shooting from the floor to earn the 60-47 in-region victory at Wink Arena on Saturday (Nov. 17) night.
Prior to Saturday's contest, Lewis had held Ferris State to 54 points-per-game in their previous three showdowns, including a 62-44 win last year. Lewis was also aided by the fact that they committed nine turnovers for the entire game. Ferris State made 14 miscues on the evening, and Lewis capitalized with 21 points off of the Bulldog turnovers.
"I thought we defended really well tonight," Lewis head men's basketball coach
Scott Trost said. "Offensively, I thought we had some first-game jitters, but anytime you play good defense and take care of the ball, you're going to give yourself a chance.
"We played hard and we competed tonight and it was a good team win against a quality GLIAC opponent."

Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) and
David Bryant (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) scored 14 and 13 points respectively for the Flyers. That trio combined to shoot 50.0% (7-for-14) from three-point range.
With the win, Lewis improves to 1-0, while the host Bulldogs are now 0-1 on the campaign.
Ferris State sophomore guard Dietrich Lever paced the Bulldogs with 12 points, while senior forward Daniel Sutherlin (10 rebounds) and sophomore guard Drew Lehman each scored 10 points.
Lewis returns to action on Monday (Nov. 19), as the Flyers head to Detroit, Mich., to square off with Wayne State for a 7 PM (ET) tip-off.
