Detroit, Mich. -
Monday's men's basketball contest between Lewis University and Wayne State University featured 11 lead changes over the final 15 minutes of regulation, but Warrior forward Ian Larkin provided the bucket that mattered most.

Trailing 69-68 with 73 seconds remaining, Larkin gathered in a Chene Phillips miss with a thunderous tip dunk to help the host Warriors to the 70-69 in-region win over the visiting Flyers at the Matthei Center.

Larkin finished with nine points and eight rebounds, but it was Phillips that stole the show with 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists on the evening. Wayne State senior guard Cole Prophet added 20 points, including three trifectas.

With the win, Wayne State is now 1-1 on the campaign, while the visiting Flyers fall to 1-1.

Lewis sophomore guard Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) topped the Flyers with 19 points on 9-for-16 shooting and a career-high five assists. Flyer forward Julian Lewis (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) collected his first career double-double with 16 points (7-for-10) and 11 rebounds.

The Flyers also received solid performances from senior guard David Bryant (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) and freshman forward Brad Foster (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central). Bryant posted 11 points - including three treys - while Foster earned 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the floor.

Foster was a catalyst for the Flyers down the stretch, as he scored six of his 10 points - and the Flyers' final 10 points - over the final 7:43 of regulation.

His tip-dunk off of a Jeff Jarosz (Lyons, Ill./Morton) (Lyons, Ill./Morton) missed lay-up attempt gave the Flyers a 65-63 lead with 5:29 left if the contest.

Both teams would trade turnovers, before a Foster miscue would lead to a Larkin dunk with 3:44 left in the contest to even the score up at 65-apiece.

On the ensuing possession, Jackson would find Lewis open for the alley-oop dunk to push the visiting Flyers ahead, 67-65, with 3:18 remaining.

The Flyers and Warriors would once again trade turnovers, before Prophet landed his final three-pointer of the night to push WSU to the 68-67 advantage with 2:18 left.

Foster would find himself in the right spot again on Lewis' next possession, as he hauled in a Jackson miss and put it back for a lay-up, giving the Flyers a 69-68 lead with 1:57 left in the game.

Wayne State would call a time-out, setting the stage for Larkin's heroics.

After both teams were held scoreless on their next possessions, Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost called a time-out with 16 seconds left to set up a possible game-winning shot.

Wayne State's Gerald Williams-Taylor, however, stole the ball from Jackson and was fouled in the process with two seconds remaining.

He missed both free throws and Lewis called its final time-out, but the Flyers' desperation attempt at the buzzer was thwarted by Williams-Taylor, as he blocked Lewis' shot at the buzzer.

"We played great tonight," Trost said. "I could not be more proud of our effort, because (Wayne State) is a NCAA-caliber tournament team.

"I thought we showed a lot of spirit and from top-to-bottom, we played fantastic."

Lewis returns to action on November 25th, as they square off with Hillsdale for a 3 PM (ET) start in Michigan.
