Edwardsville, Ill. – The Lewis University women's basketball team took a nine point lead into halftime against SIUE but the Flyers fell, 65-56, to the Cougars in an exhibition match-up at the Vadalabene Center on Friday (Nov. 2).

Lisa Carlsen said. “SIUE turned up the intensity in the second half and we panicked.”
In the first half, Lewis took at 5-4 lead at the 18:48 mark, went into halftime up 33-24, and didn't relinquish their lead until 14:52 in the second half when SIUE's Coco Moore made a layup.
The Flyers were led by sophomore
Jess Reinhart's (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) 10 points, 7-for-7 at the free throw line, seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
Senior forward
Sam Rinehart (Marion, Iowa/Marion) added 12 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore guard
Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) scored nine points and had four assists for the Flyers.
In the second half, the squads exchanged the lead three times. The Cougars held onto the lead for good at the 6:59 mark in the game to win 65-56.
“I definitely saw some good things that we can build on as we start the season,” Carlsen said.
Lewis opens the 2012-13 season on the road at Saginaw Valley State in Saginaw, Mich., on Saturday (Nov. 10) at 7 PM.
