Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University women's volleyball team closed out the home portion of the 2012 schedule with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-14) sweep of Saint Joseph's on Saturday (Nov. 3) to go 12-0 at Neil Carey arena this season.

The Flyers improve to 21-9 on the season and 13-3 against Great Lakes Valley Conference teams while the Pumas fall to 6-23 on the year, 1-15 in the GLVC.

“It was a great senior day match,” Lewis head women's volleyball coach Lorelee Smith said. “All five seniors got to play all three sets and personally, if I was a senior, that's how I'd want to go out.”

Senior Carly Perschnick (Dwight, Ill./Dwight Township) led the Flyers with 11 kills and three blocks while fellow senior Jen Krumwiede (Elkhard, Ind./Elkhard Memorial) earned her 12th double-double of the season with 11 digs and 10 kills.

Krumwiede executed a well-placed kill to even the first set at 12-12, then went to the service line four times to push Lewis' lead to 16-13. The Flyers earned points off of kills by Colleen Mitros (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) and Jillian Carlberg (Urbandale, Iowa/Waukee) and capitalized on a Saint Joseph's error.

The Flyers won the set, 25-16, getting the last two points of the set off of kills by Krumwiede.

In the second set, a Carlberg kill at 6-5 gave the ball back to Lewis, who didn't release the lead to win 25-14 over Saint Joseph's.

In the final set, the Pumas battled early but couldn't hold serve before the Flyers built a 10-point lead. Lewis capitalized on three Saint Joseph's errors, two kills by Krumwiede and a service ace from Perschnick to win the set 25-14.

Sophomore setter Leigh Barea (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) had 40 assists while junior libero Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) had 17 digs for the Flyers.

The Flyers close out the 2012 regular season on the road. First, Lewis heads to Evansville, Ind., to battle Southern Indiana on Friday (Nov. 9) at 7 PM. On Saturday (Nov. 10), the team will take on Kentucky Wesleyan at 1 PM and Urbana at 3 PM in Owensboro, Ky.
