Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University women's swimming team only dropped one event to Illinois Tech on Saturday (Nov. 3) when the Flyers defeated the Scarlet Hawks, 186-38.
The Flyers fell in the 1000-yard freestyle when IIT's Aimee Dwante tapped in at 11:38.90, ahead of
Elizabeth Ludwig's (Byron, Ill./Byron) time of 11:42.74.
“It was a nice team effort,” Lewis head swimming coach
Roger Karns. “We had good swims from lots of different individuals.”
Freshman
Kinsey Coble (Lafayette, Ind.) won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.17, exactly one second shy of the school record set by Brittany Reetz in 2004. Coble also won the 100-yard freestyle (55.61) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:50.90) as the anchor leg with
Cindy Jezuit (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North),
Emily Heine (Madison, Miss./Madison Central) and
Hannah Yancey (Orange Park, Fla./Ridgeview).
Yancey won the the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.12) and was a member of the first-place team in the 200-yard medley relay of
Montana Clasby (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls),
Catie Reese (Trafalgar, Ind./Indian Creek) and Jezuit that finished with a time of 1:55.39.
Clasby picked up first-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.86) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.17) and a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:17.62).
Caitlyn Scheirer (Washington, Ill./Washington Community) won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:17.27.
Lewis next competes on Friday (Nov. 9) at Lincoln College in Lincoln, Ill., at 11 AM. The squad then returns to Lewis Pool on Saturday (Nov. 10) to host Valparaiso at 1 PM.
