Lewis Women’s Volleyball Overcomes Southern Indiana, 3-1

Elkhart, Ind., natives Jen Krumwiede and Cassidy Parsons had double-doubles in the Flyers victory.

The Flyers won their fifth GLVC match in a row with the 3-1 victory over the Eagles.

Evansville, Ind. – After dropping the first set, the Lewis University women's volleyball team was able to take the next three to defeat Southern Indiana, 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-18) on Friday (Nov. 9) at the Physical Activities Center.
 
The Flyers improve to 22-9 on the season and 14-3 against Great Lakes Valley Conference opponents. The Eagles fall to 16-14 for the year and 12-5 in the GLVC.
 
“There was a couple of major things that the team was able to clean up after the first set,” Lewis head women's volleyball coach Lorelee Smith said. “The team was able to pick it up mentally to get the win.”
 
In the first set, USI held serve twice late in the set to score four points each time to keep the game close and eventually win the set 25-23.
 
The Flyers held on to win the second set 25-23 with help from five kills of her 16 kills from senior Jen Krumwiede (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial). She also had 13 digs in the contest for her 13th double-double of the season and seven blocks.
 
Taking the momentum into the third set, Lewis jumped out to a four-point lead. The squad went ahead by seven at 22-15, before winning the set 25-19. Senior Carly Perschnick (Dwight, Ill./Dwight Township) posted six of her 14 kills during the third set.
 
The Flyers took a five point lead at 19-12 in the fourth set on two kills by Perschnick, a kill by Cassidy Parsons (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial), an ace from Katie Fuerst (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) and an error by the Eagles. Parsons earned her first double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs.
 
Lewis withstood three straight points to close the door with USI at serve when Morgan Cebula (Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point Area) earned a kill to win the set 25-18 and the match for the Flyers.
 
Libero Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) had 27 digs, while setter Vivian Pritz (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township) had 35 assists in the four set match.
 
Lewis closes out the regular season in Owensboro, Ky., on Saturday (Nov. 10), when the squad takes on Kentucky Wesleyan at 1 PM and Urbana at 3 PM.
