Lewis Women's Basketball Hosts Judson on Thursday

The Flyers are off to their best start, 4-1, since the 2006-07 season.

Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University women's basketball team, off to their best start since the 2006-07 season (4-1), will face their second Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference squad of the year in Judson on Thursday, (Dec. 6) at 5:30 PM at Neil Carey Arena.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES - Coach Kristi Cirone has her squad out to a 4-7 start, sitting with a 1-7 CCAC record. In their last game, the Eagles fell to No. 7 Saint Xavier, 67-38, on Dec. 1st.

ALL TIME SERIES - The Flyers hold a 2-0 series lead. 

LAST TIME WE MET - Lewis and Judson crossed paths twice in the 1987-88 season, with the Flyers taking both games, a 67-60 victory at Judson on Dec. 19, 1987 and a 79-54 home court win on Feb. 17, 1988. 

COMMON FOE - Both squads have already faced St. Francis (Ill.) this season. The Flyers defeated the Saints 90-50 on Dec. 1 while the Saints defeated the Eagles 61-47 on Nov. 17.

PREP TEAMMATES - Judson Coach Cirone is a former teammate of Lewis' sharpshooter Kelly Monaco (2006-11), the pair played for Resurrection High from 2002-06.  

NATIONAL RANKINGS - The Flyers are No. 15 nationally in scoring average (80.6 points per game) while the team's 3-point field goal percentage (42.5) puts them ninth. 

INDIVIDUALS NATIONALLY RANKED - Sophomore guard Nikki Nellen is eighth nationally in assists per game average (6). Junior guard Alexus Grayer is ranked 18th in three-point field goal percentage (50%, 12-24).

SIXTH WOMAN - Grayer's number 23 has been the first number Head Coach Lisa Carlsen has called out as a reserve in four of five games this season. Grayer is averaging 10.8 points and 4.0 rebounds in 19 minutes of play. She has shot 12-of-24 (.500) from behind the arc. 

FEARLESS FRESHMEN - Forward Mariyah Henley and guard Alyssa Dengler have been key reserves for the Flyers early this season. Henley is averaging 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds, 3-pf-4 from beyond the arc and 9-of-11 from the charity stripe in 11.8 minutes. Dengler is averaging 1.2 points and 0.8 rebounds with only one turnover in 62 minutes (12.4 average) of action on the court.

ALL-TIMER - Senior Labrenthia Murdock has etched her name into Lewis' All-Time record books. Murdock's career numbers put her 10th in total blocked shots (64). 

FLYERS EMPTY BENCH AGAINST ST. FRANCIS - Lewis posted 90 points on an opponent for the second time this season in its 90-50 victory over St. Francis on Dec. 1. Senior Sam Rinehart led all scorers with 15 points in 22 minutes of action. All 13 active Flyers saw playing time against the Saints. 

CENTRAL MISSOURI TOO MUCH FOR LEWIS- With both teams battling to stay undefeated early in the season, Lewis took a one-point lead into halftime. UCM came out of the half pushing the tempo and kept feeding their post Nicole Caddell, who led all scorers with 24 points and 16 rebounds. UCM sealed the 84-77 victory with a lay up with seven seconds left in the game. 

FLYERS DEFEAT WAYNE STATE WARRIORS - Murdock led the Flyers with 17 points, going 7-for-8 in shooting from the field, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arch. Lewis was able to withstand Wayne State's late surge to win 75-71 in WSU's home and season opener on Saturday (Nov. 17). 

REINHART NAMED GLVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Sophomore Jess Reinhart was named GLVC Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Nov. 12 after she opened the season with a double-double (22 pts-12 reb.) over SVSU and led the Flyers with 25 points and eight rebounds over Northwood. She also went 16-for-18 (.889) from the free throw line.
