Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's basketball team used a potent combination of long range shooting and stifling defense as the Flyers drained a season-high 12 three-pointers and held Olivet Nazarene scoreless for 13:50 in the second-half on their way to the 83-47 non-conference win over the Tigers at Neil Carey Arena on Thursday (Dec. 6) night.

David Bryant (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) collected a career-high five three-pointers and finished with a career-high 21 points. Flyer sophomore guard
Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) knocked down a pair of three-pointers, finishing with 17 points, while classmate
Jeff Jarosz (Lyons, Ill./Morton) (Lyons, Ill./Morton) also drained a pair of three-balls and finished with 15 points. As a team, Lewis shot 50.0% (12-for-24) from beyond the arc.
The Flyers also received solid bench play from guards
Nick Valla (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist/Missouri State) and
Gabe Williams (Chicago, Ill./Farragut) (Chicago, Ill./Farragut). Valla totaled 12 points, including two three-pointers, while Williams chipped in 11 points in the win. This marks the second-straight game that Lewis has had five players in double-figures.
With the victory, Lewis improves to 3-2 on the campaign, while the visiting Tigers are now 5-7 on the season.
The Flyers' big run started following a lay-up by Olivet Nazarene's Jake Boyce (8 points, six rebounds) to cut Lewis' lead to 54-44 with 16:10 remaining in the final stanza.
Lewis responded in a big way, with a 29-0 run over the next 13 minutes and 50 seconds to extend their lead to 83-44 with 2:36 remaining in the game. Jackson led the charge during that stretch with 10 points, while Williams and Valla each chipped in seven points for the Flyers.
The Flyers forced a season-high 21 turnovers on the evening, which led to 25 points. In the second half, Olivet Nazarene scored a total of 12 points on 4-for-28 (14.3%) shooting.
Lewis was at the other end of the spectrum, as the Flyers shot a season-best 55.4% (31-for-56) from field goal range.
"It was a good overall win," Lewis head men's basketball coach
Scott Trost said. "I thought in the second-half we really challenged them on the defensive end and I thought that our effort was much better."
Olivet Nazarene senior guard Austin Davis led the Tigers with nine points, including two three-pointers.
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Dec. 8), as they welcome local rival, St. Francis (Ill.) to Neil Carey Arena for a 7:30 PM tip-off.
