Romeoville, Ill. –
Lewis University freshman Mariyah Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) scored 10 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the floor and pulled down 13 rebounds in 19 minutes of play for her first career double-double in the Flyers 68-42 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Judson on Thursday, (Dec. 6) at Neil Carey Arena.

“It was one of those games that you can look at as a big positive as far as getting a lot of people playing time,” Lewis head women's basketball coach Lisa Carlsen said. “That doesn't happen every night and we have been lucky the last couple of games to get kids that possibly won't see a lot of time here on out an opportunity to play.”

Senior Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) hit a big three-pointer in the first four seconds of the game to set the tone and lead a stifling Flyer defense.  Judson's first basket came at the 17:28 mark on a layup by Siobhan Cerney.

Murdock was one of four Flyers that scored in double figures, scoring 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor and going 2-for-2 from the foul line. She also pulled down three rebounds, stole the ball twice and blocked one shot.

Sophomore Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) led all scorers with 11 points, shooting 3-of-5 in the paint and 5-of-6 at the charity stripe. Sophomore guard Kristin Itschner (Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) scored 10 points, going 4-for-8 from the floor, including one made three-point attempt, and 1-for-2 at the free throw line.

The Flyers had a comfortable 31-16 lead at the half, making 14-of-33 (42.4%) shots and forcing 13 Judson turnovers.

In the second half, it was much of the same. The Flyers came out of the locker room pushing an up-tempo offense and a suffocating defense against the Eagles. Judson did not score their first basket of the second half until 16:52, when Daisy Jara hit a jump shot.

Lewis reached a game-high 31-point lead at 11:57, when Henley made a layup to put the Flyers up 54-23.

Carlsen entered every active Flyer into the game in by 4:30 in the second half, when the Flyers were up 63-33.

The Flyers went 27-of-63 (43.3%) from the floor and 10-of-16 (60%) from the free throw line. The team forced 21 Judson turnovers and stole the ball 15 times.

Lewis has a short break for fall semester finals and then is back in action on Dec. 16th when they head to Harrogate, Tenn., to face Lincoln Memorial at 2 PM.
