Complete Game Notes

The cameras of Lakeshore Public Television return on Thursday (Feb. 2) when the Lewis women's basketball team (4-15, 2-9 GLVC) hosts Northern Kentucky (15-4, 8-3 GLVC). Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. The game can also be heard on WJOL 1340 AM.

AGAINST THE NORSE - Northern Kentucky leads the all-time series 46-6 over the Flyers.

LAST TIME WE MET - The Flyers and Norse met earlier this season on Jan. 21 at Northern Kentucky. The Norse took the contest 59-44. While it ended up being a 15-point differential, it was a single-digit game for most of the contest.

THE LAST? - Thursday's game between the Norse and Flyers could be the final meeting between Lewis and Northern Kentucky. The Norse are leaving the GLVC following the season and will join the Atlantic Sun Conference in their Division I reclassification efforts. Lewis' only chance after today to play the Norse would be in the GLVC Tournament.

ONE MORE TIME! - Each game the rest of the season is against a GLVC East Division opponent the Flyers have already played once this season.

CANCEL THE BLOCK PARTY - Lewis failed to record a block against Saint Joseph's on Saturday. It was the first time this season Lewis didn't record a block in a game. Lewis ranks sixth in the GLVC in blocks with an average of 3.58 per game.

CARBAUGH TIME - Senior Devon Carbaugh (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) rejoined the starting lineup on Thursday, Jan. 26 against Indianapolis. She added nine points and seven rebounds against the Greyhounds before scoring 12 points on 5-of-5 shooting at St. Joseph's on Saturday.

FOR STARTERS - The Flyers have used 11 starting lineups this season.

WRITE HER NAME IN INK - Freshman point guard Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) is the only Flyer to have started every game for the Flyers.

HELPING HAND - Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI)'s nine assists against Bellarmine on Jan. 19 were the most for a Lewis freshman since Brittney Diener (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) recorded 10 against Missouri-St. Louis on Jan. 29, 2004. Freshman Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) set a career-high with eight at Saint Joseph's on Jan. 28.

IT MUST BE THE NUMBER - Freshman Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic), who wears the same 34 jersey number of fourth all-time scorer at Lewis Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) (1,819 points), put on a Turpel-esque performance on Saturday at Saint Joseph's by scoring 27 points. The total was the highest for a Flyer this season. Turpel however never scored more than 20 points in a game during her freshman season. Coincidently  though, Turpel's career high of 37 came against the same Saint Joseph's team on Feb. 4, 2010.

REINHART OF GOLD - Freshman Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) has started the last six games for Lewis. She's scored in double-figures in each game and is shooting 54.7 percent (35-of-64) from the floor in the contests. She is the first freshman to score in double-digits in six straight since Darcee Schmidt did so in 20 straight in 2003-04.

REINHART AT HER BEST IN THE GLVC - In GLVC games only, Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) ranks seventh in the conference in field goal percentage (49.4 percent). She is the only freshman or sophomore in the top 15 in field goal percentage in conference games.

HOW YOUNG ARE THEY? - Lewis' eight newcomers have combined to play 1840 minutes, or 47.8 percent of the available court time. The newcomers have scored 511 points, or 41.6 percent of Lewis' 1226 points.

THEY'RE SO YOUNG... - Lewis started four freshmen (Johnson, Nellen, Itschner, Reinhart) with sophomore Lauren Mead (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) against UIS on Jan. 14. It's the first time Lewis started four freshmen in a game since Nov. 21, 2003 when Darcee Schmidt, Mary Moskal, Erin Cox and Brittney Diener started against Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich. Lewis won the contest 60-57.

ADDING AN ALL-AMERICAN - Hannah Koeneman (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan) joined the Lewis women's basketball team on Dec. 8. The name might be familiar to those around the GLVC as she was an American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Third Team selection as a senior right side hitter for Lewis in 2011. Koeneman recorded a team-high 299 kills with 91 blocks for the Flyers in 2011 and helped Lewis to a 25-7 record. The 6-2 forward with junior status for basketball last played organized basketball in high school.

UP NEXT - Lewis hosts Bellarmine on Saturday (Feb. 4) at 4:30 p.m. Note the hour earlier start time than normal.
