INDIANAPOLIS – Freshman Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) made a career-high five 3-pointers in Lewis women's basketball's 81-73 Great Lakes Valley Conference loss at Indianapolis on Thursday (Feb. 16).

Indianapolis' first half offensive attack was aided by a stretch in which they made a 3-pointer in four consecutive offensive possessions. Despite their prowess from the outside in the first, the halftime score was 37 all.

The difference in the game came in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Lewis scored the first points of the frame to go up 39-37. Then the Flyers went cold from the floor. Over the next nine minutes Indianapolis outscored the Flyers 25-6. It put the Flyers down by 17 points with 10 minutes remaining.

“That stretch was the difference,” Lewis head coach Lisa Carlsen said. “I think it was our intensity out of the locker room. We didn't come out ready to play and you can't do that against a good team on the road.”

Lewis didn't give up though. The Flyers cut the Greyhound lead to 71-65 with 3:28 remaining. It was four points at 73-69 following four straight free throws by Senior Madeline Kish (Oak Forest, Ill./Sandburg) (Oak Forest, Ill./Sandburg/Eastern Illinois). Johnson had a look at a 3-pointer with 1:01 remaining which could have made it a one-point game. However her attempt rimmed out. The Greyhounds converted six straight free throws down the stretch to put the contest away.

Johnson finished with 15 points. Lewis was led by freshman Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic)'s (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) 16 points and seven rebounds.

“Jamie and Jess are becoming more consistent,” Carlsen said. “You can pretty much bet what you are going to get from those two.”

Kish added 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the charity stripe. Junior Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) provided 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. She also recorded five assists and two steals. She had eight points and four assists in the second half.

“Labrenthia made the conscious effort to get the ball inside during the second half,“ Carlsen said of her six assists.

Indianapolis' Kristin Turner had 25 points. Kelly Walter added 21 points off the bench. Walter shot 5-of-11 from beyond the arc.

The Flyers finished with a season-low six turnovers. The game featured six lead changes and five ties.

Indianapolis improves to 17-7 (11-5 GLVC). The Flyers fall to 6-18 (4-12 GLVC). Lewis hosts Saint Joseph's on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. It will be Senior Night for the Flyers. Lewis will wear pink uniforms in support of the Play4Kay Breast Cancer Awareness campaign.
