SOMERS, Wis. – The Flyers lost at the same time they won. Lewis women's hoops dropped an 86-61 decision at No. 16 UW-Parkside on Thursday (Feb. 23) evening to close out the regular season. However thanks to a Quincy victory over UIS, Lewis edges UIS for the 12
th and final bid to the 2012 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.
As the No. 12 seed Lewis will travel to No. 5 Missouri S&T on Sunday (Feb. 26) for the GLVC Tournament First Round contest. The game will start at 1 p.m. A win and Lewis advances to the GLVC Quarterfinals. The Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Championship game will be held in Springfield, Ill. March 1-4.
Lewis began their GLVC Championship run last year by also playing Missouri S&T in the First Round.
The Flyers' only lead of the game came on a basket by freshman
Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) in the first minute. Lewis trailed 25-15 with 7:41 remaining in the first half before the Rangers went on a 16-0 run to take control of the contest.
“We got outworked in the first half because they were a lot more physical than we were,” Lewis head coach
Lisa Carlsen said.
Reinhart finished with 15 points. Junior
Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) totaled 14. Senior
Madeline Kish (Oak Forest, Ill./Sandburg) (Oak Forest, Ill./Sandburg/Eastern Illinois) had 10. Junior
Hannah Koeneman (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan) (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan) provided six points and seven rebounds off the bench.
Jadee Rooney led the Rangers with 17 points.
UW-Parkside improves to 22-4 (15-3 GLVC) and earns the GLVC East Division Championship. Lewis finishes the regular season 7-19 (5-13 GLVC).
