Complete Game Notes

Romeoville, Ill. -
The Lewis University men's basketball team opens up the 2012 SCHEELS Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Basketball Tournament in the state capital, as the Flyers (16-10) square off with UIS (15-12) in a 3 p.m. (CST) showdown at The Recreation and Athletic Center on Sunday (Feb. 26) afternoon.
Sunday's game will be broadcast live on WJOL (1340 AM) with Mark Vasko providing the play-by-play analysis.  Live stats and free video streaming, provided by UIS, can be found at www.LewisFlyers.com.

ALL TIME SERIES - Since Lewis entered the Division II ranks, the Flyers hold a 4-3 advantage over UIS in their all-time series.

LAST TIME WE MET - Lewis senior guard Chris McClellan (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Wheeling) scored 10 of his 19 points in overtime, including the game-tying trifecta in the first session, to lift the host Flyers to the 89-85 double overtime victory over Illinois-Springfield at Neil Carey Arena on January 14, 2012.

LAST TIME OUT - Lewis, led by a game-high 20 points and four trifectas from McClellan, rallied from a nine-point, second-half deficit to earn the 90-83 GLVC win over UW-Parkside in the regular-season finale on Thursday (Feb. 23) night.

FIERY FRESHMAN - Lewis freshman guard Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) posted a game and season-high 26 points in the Flyers' 82-74 upset of No. 7 Kentucky Wesleyan on February 9th. That is the most points scored by any Flyer freshman in the 21st century.

KEEP ON WINNIN' - Lewis' 86-64 win over Saint Joseph's on January 28th clinched a winning record of 5-4 for the month of January, giving the Flyers three-straight winning months. The last time Lewis accomplished that feat came during the 2007-08 campaign, which was also the last time the Flyers qualified for the NCAA Regional Tournament.

TOUGH SLEDDING - Lewis' 10 losses this season have come against teams that are a combined 135-47 (.742) for the 2011-12 campaign.

NOT MY BROTHER - Senior forward Justin Jarosz (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) and freshman guard Jeff Jarosz (Lyons, Ill./Morton) are not related.

CENTURY CLUB - Lewis' win over Saint Joseph's on February 18th, marked head coach Scott Trost's 100th win as the Flyers' skipper.

50/50 - Lewis is 9-0 this year when they have a field goal percentage of 50.0% or better. Since the 2006-07 campaign, the Flyers have a record of 55-10 (.846) when they shoot over 50.0%.

EXTRA EFFORT - Lewis' win over Indianapolis on January 26th, marked the Flyers' second overtime win this season. That is the first time a Flyer squad has accomplished that feat since the 2007-08 campaign when they went 2-2 in free basketball. The last time Lewis won three overtime games came during the 1993-94 season.

HONORING HIS BROTHER - Junior guard David Bryant (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) wears the number 12 in honor of his late brother Kevin who played for Trost at Illinois Wesleyan from 2004-06.

FAB FROSH - Forward Julian Lewis (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) is tops among GLVC freshmen with 4.9 rebounds-per-game. Jackson is tops among GLVC rookies, averaging 12.8 points-per-contest - which is also the most by a Flyer freshman since Lewis Hall of Famer Larry Tucker averaged 14.9 points-per-game in 1979-80.

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN - Lewis is 25-8 (.758) since 2006-07 when they knock down at least 50.0% of their three-point attempts (min. 5 made).

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN (PART DEUX) - Lewis is currently shooting 42.0% (183-for-436) from long range, which would be a Flyer single-season, school-record.

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN (PART TROIS) - Lewis senior Matt Toth (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) is two three-pointers short of qualifying for Lewis' all-time leading three-point shooters in school-history, as he owns a career three-point field goal percentage of 43.9% (43-for-98). That would be good for fourth in school-history, behind McClellan - who is currently third in school-history, knocking down 44.7% (224-for-501) of his long range attempts.

DEFENSIVE CLAMPS - Lewis has held 10 opponents this season to under 60 points, which is the most by a Flyer squad since the 2001-02 season when they did it 11 times. The Flyers have tied last season's mark of holding three teams to under 50 points. The last time the Flyers held more than three teams to under 50 points, came during the 1985-86 campaign, when they did it six times.

REGIONAL RANKINGS - Lewis is ranked ninth in the most recent NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Midwest Regional rankings announced on Wednesday (Feb. 22).

GETTING TO THE LINE - Lewis got to the free throw line 35 times in their victory against UW-Parkside on Thursday (Feb. 23) night. That was the most charity shots by a Flyer squad since they attempted 35 against Upper Iowa on November 21, 2009.
