Lewis Women's Tennis Extends Winning Streak To Seven With 6-3 Triumph Over Ferris State

Lanstiak, Kranczicki and Hargrove each win two matches for the Flyers in regional showdown.

The No. 48 Lewis University women's tennis team used the momentum of winning all three of their doubles matches on their way to their seventh-straight victory with the 6-3 regional triumph over Ferris State at the FSU Racquet & Fitness Center on Tuesday (March 13) afternoon.

"We played extremely well in doubles today and that was crucial in helping us win," Lewis head women's tennis coach Brett Bridel said.

With the win, Lewis improves to 9-1 on the season, while Ferris State, who is ranked eighth overall in the region, falls to 12-9 on the campaign.

At No. 1 doubles, Lewis senior Katie Hargrove (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) and sophomore Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) paired up for the 8-1 win over Ferris State's Melissa Flowers and Laurence LeBlanc. Hargrove also dropped LeBlanc, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 3 singles, while Kranczicki upended Tabitha Simpson, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles.

Lewis sophomore Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) also won two matches for the Flyers. The Hungarian native teamed up with senior Bayley Brown (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Central) (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Central) for the 8-2 doubles win over Natalie Diorio and Julie Fusik at No. 2. She added a  6-0, 6-1 win over Ana Jan at No. 1 singles.

At No. 3 doubles, Lewis sophomore Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill./York) (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and freshman Brianna Markgraf (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) collected the 8-3 win over Jan and Mary Coleman.

Lewis returns to action on March 23rd, as the Flyers head to Kirksville, Mo., to square off with Truman State at 1 p.m.
