Lewis Women's Tennis Edges Northwest Missouri State, 5-4

Winning streak hits nine matches for the Flyers.

The Lewis University women's tennis team extended their winning streak to nine matches, as the visiting Flyers earned the 5-4 non-conference victory over Northwest Missouri State on Saturday (March 24) afternoon.

"The ladies did what they needed to do today," Lewis head women's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "We didn't play particularly well, but I thought our effort was outstanding. No one gave up and we kept fighting hard for every single point."

With the win, Lewis improves to 11-1 overall, while the host Bearcats are now 4-5.

The Flyers got the ball rolling by taking two out of three matches in doubles action. The Lewis tandem of sophomore Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) and freshman Brianna Markgraf (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) upended Erika Leston and Leslee Feldhaus, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles. Lanstiak also defeated Northwest Missouri State's Camila Quesada, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 1 singles.

At No. 3 doubles, Lewis' Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill./York) (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and Bayley Brown (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Central) (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Central) dropped Kim Ho and Emily Hoffman, 8-5. Mills also earned the 7-6, 6-2, win over Feldhaus at No. 6 singles.

The fifth and final victory for the Flyers came at No. 2 singles, as sophomore Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnaszium es Kollegium) defeated Leston, 6-0, 6-2.

Lewis returns to action on Sunday (March 25), as the Flyers head to Kansas City, Mo., to square off with Rockhurst for an 11 a.m. non-conference showdown.
