Kansas City, Mo. - The nine-match winning streak for the No. 48 Lewis University women's tennis team came to an end on Sunday (March 25), as the Flyers dropped a 6-3 non-conference decision at the hands of Rockhurst.
"We were not prepared today," Lewis head women's tennis coach
Brett Bridel said. "We played poorly in doubles with too many errors and not nearly enough positive energy to be successful.
"I will do a better job of having us ready to go in every match," Bridel continued. "We will use this experience as motivation to get better."
With the win, Rockhurst improves to 5-1 overall, while the Flyers are now 11-2.
The Flyers received their lone win at No. 2 doubles, as sophomore
Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) and freshman
Brianna Markgraf (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) defeated Mary and Rachel Lanaghen, 8-4. Lanstiak shutout Rockhurst's Maureen Rielley, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles.
The final win for Lewis came at No. 2 singles, as sophomore
Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) claimed the 6-2, 6-2 win over Karsyn Betts.
Lewis returns to action on Friday (March 30), as the Flyers welcome Saint Joseph's to the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex for a 2 p.m. (CST) first serve.
