The No. 37 Lewis University men's tennis team found themselves trailing Wayne State, 2-1, in a crucial regional contest following doubles action, but rallied for four wins in singles play to edge the Warriors, 5-4, at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex on Saturday (March 31) afternoon.

"This was a big win over a very good Wayne State team," Lewis head men's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "They outplayed us in doubles, but everyone really fought hard and with great resiliency to overcome that deficit from dubs."

With the victory, Lewis improves to 12-2 overall while the Warriors are now 10-7 on the campaign.

Lewis' lone doubles win came at No. 1, as senior Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) and freshman Armand Levandi (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) blanked Wayne State's Aman Gill and Melvin Joseph, 8-0. Lapimaa also dropped Thomas Ducret, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, while Levandi earned the 6-2, 6-3 win over Wayne State's Michael FitzGerald at No. 3 singles.

Flyer freshman Erik Aunapuu (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) was victorious at No. 2 singles with the 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Gill.

Lewis junior Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) won the deciding match for the Flyers with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 victory over Joseph at No. 4 singles.

Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Apr. 1) afternoon, as they welcome Indianapolis to the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex for a 1 p.m. first serve.
