Evansville, Ind. - Once again, the No. 47 Lewis University women's tennis team rode the strength of their doubles play, as the Flyers swept all three matches on their way to the 7-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Southern Indiana at the USI Tennis Courts on Friday (Apr. 6) afternoon.
With the win, Lewis improves to 14-2 overall and 3-0 in GLVC action, while the host Screaming Eagles fall to 7-8 on the campaign and 2-2 in conference play.
At No. 1 doubles, Lewis' tandem of sophomore
Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) and freshman
Brianna Markgraf (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) claimed the 8-2 win over USI's Ellena Stumpf and Lindsey White. Kranczicki was also victorious at No. 2 singles with the 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Morgan Coquerville, while Markgraf earned the 6-0, 6-1 win over Stephanie Smith at No. 5 singles.
Lewis' No. 2 duo of
Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) and
Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill./York) (Elmhurst, Ill./York) dropped Coquerville and Smith, 8-4. Lanstiak won her 20th-straight singles match at No. 1, with the 6-2, 6-3 defeat of White.
The Flyers claimed their final doubles win at No. 3, as seniors
Bayley Brown (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Central) (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Central) and
Katie Hargrove (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) defeated Logan Ackerman and Shannon Joyce, 7-6 (10-6). Hargrove won at No. 3 singles, with the 6-1, 6-4 defeat of Stumpf.
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Apr. 7), as the Flyers take on Kentucky Wesleyan. First serve is set for 10 a.m. (EST).
