Romeoville, Ill. - McKendree University freshman forward Alex Ridsdale scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute, to help push the visiting Bearcats to the 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the Lewis University men's soccer team at Lewis Stadium on Friday (Sept. 28) night.
"We struggled to get some things done tonight," Lewis head men's soccer coach
Evan Fiffles said. "We just have to sharpen and tighten some things up and work on the things we're not doing well right now."
With the win, McKendree improves to 6-3 on the campaign and 4-3 in GLVC action, while the host Flyers drop to 3-6 on the season and 3-4 in conference play.
McKendree got on the board first, as Dominic Plant gathered in a rebound off of a Liam Robley miss off the Lewis crossbar for the score at the 21:50 mark.
Lewis would even the score up at 1-apiece, as freshman
Isaac Oberlin (Carol Stream, Ill./Wheaton North) (Carol Stream, Ill./Wheaton North) sent a shot off a McKendree defender for his first collegiate goal with 1:18 left in the first half.
The Bearcats held a 16-8 advantage over the Flyers in shots, and had seven shots on goal to Lewis' three. Lewis goalkeepers
Sebastian Kieruzal (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) and
Alec Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence ) (Mokena, Ill./Providence) each made two saves for the Flyers. Their counterpart, Scottt Armistead, made two saves in goal for the Bearcats.
Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Sept. 30), as the Flyers host Bellarmine for a 12 PM first kick at Lewis Stadium.
