Lewis Women's Basketball Heads To McKendree For A Thursday Match-Up

Junior Alexus Grayer is No. 1 in three-point field-goal percentage with 51.2%.

Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University women's basketball team (10-2, 3-1 GLVC) opens their Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division schedule on the road against McKendree (5-7, 0-4 GLVC) on Thursday (Jan. 17) at the Melvin Price Convocation Center in Lebanon, Ill. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS - Coach Melissa Ringhausen is in her 16th season as the head coach of the McKendree women's basketball program. The Bearcats are coming off a 65-60 loss at Missouri-St. Louis on Jan. 12. Sophomore guard Caty Ponce leads the Bearcats with 17.8 points-per-game and 3.0 rebounds-per-game averages. 

ALL TIME SERIES - Since the beginning of the Division II era in 1980, McKendree holds a 1-0 lead.

LAST TIME WE MET - McKendree defeated Lewis, 64-57, on Nov. 14, 2011, at Neil Carey Arena. McKendree's Ponce led all scorers with 23 points as the Bearcats held the Flyers under 30% shooting from the field. 

LEWIS RECEIVES VOTES IN DII POLL - The Flyers received three votes in the USA TODAY Sports Division II Basketball Coaches Poll released on Tuesday (Jan. 15), the first time since the 2006-07 season when the squad received votes and was ranked as high as No. 7.

NATIONAL RANKINGS - Lewis has jumped into the top-10 in three categories in the NCAA national statistical rankings. The Flyers are No. 6 in three-point field-goal percentage (40.0%); and No. 9 in field-goal percentage (44.9%) and three-point field-goal defense (23.8%). Lewis is also No. 16 in the country with a scoring average of 76.0 points-per-game. 

GRAYER ON FIRE - Junior guard Alexus Grayer has taken over No. 1 in the nation in three-point field-goal percentage (51.2%), averaging 2.25 made three-pointers per game.

NELLEN NATIONALLY RANKED - Sophomore guard Nikki Nellen is 13th nationally, averaging 5.3 assists per game. 

ALL-TIMER - Senior Labrenthia Murdock has moved up to No. 8 in school history with 77 blocks. Audra Ross (1991-94) is sitting at No. 7 with 80 career blocks. 

NUMBERS VS. THE GLVC - The Flyers top the GLVC in three-point field-goal defense (23.8%) and are second in scoring (76.0), field-goal percentage (44.7%), three-point field-goal percentage (39.8%), three-point field-goal made (78 total, 6.2 average), blocks (52 total, 4.5 average), assists (206, 17.2 average), and defensive rebounds (368, 30.2) in the GVLC. 

INDIVIDUAL FLYERS STACKING UP IN THE GLVC - Nellen's 5.3 assists-per-game average tops the GLVC. Grayer and Murdock are first and third in three-point field goal percentage at 51.0 % (27-for-52) and 45.5% (20-for-44), respectively.

UNDER 10 TIMES TO THE LINE - The Flyers only reached the line 10 times in their victory over William Jewell (Jan. 10), the lowest of the 2012-13 season. During the Lisa Carlsen era, the Flyers are 11-15 when reaching the free throw line 10 times or under. 

UNDERCLASSMEN LOGGIN' ON - The Flyers are an underclassmen laden squad, as the six sophomores and freshmen are averaging over 9.0 minutes per game. 

BEST START - The Flyers have jumped out to their best start since the 1997-98 squad went 11-1 at the same time of the season. That team finished 23-5 overall, 15-3 in the GLVC and made a NCAA Regional Tournament appearance.
