Lewis Men's Basketball Opens GLVC Slate Against No. 14 Drury On Thursday

Tip-off is set for 8 PM at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.

The Lewis University men's basketball team opens up Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Thursday (Jan. 3), as the Flyers (6-2, 0-0 GLVC) head to Springfield, Mo., to square off with No. 14 Drury (7-2, 1-0 GLVC) at the O'Reilly Family Event Center. Tip-off is set for 8 PM.

LAST TIME OUT - Lewis held its second-straight opponent to under 50 points and its third in the Flyers' last four contests, as they claimed the 64-45 non-conference win over Northern Michigan on Sunday (Dec. 30). Lewis sophomore guard Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) topped the Flyers with 14 points.

ALL-TIME SERIES - Since Lewis entered the Division II ranks, the Panthers own a 9-1 advantage in their all-time series.

LAST TIME WE MET -  Lewis was unable to overcome an eight-minute scoring drought and a 43-18 run that spanned over 22 minutes, as the Flyers fell to Drury, 72-58, in the GLVC Quarterfinals on March 4, 2011.

GLVC OPENERS - Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost is 2-4 in GLVC season-openers. Trost's first GLVC victory was an 83-80 overtime win over Drury on November 30, 2006 at Neil Carey Arena.  

WE'RE GOING STREAKING! - With a win on Saturday, Lewis will extend its winning streak to six games, the longest such stretch since the Flyers captured 15 in a row from November 25, 2003 to January 22, 2004.

TAKING CARE OF THE ROCK - As of December 17th, Lewis was seventh in the nation in turnovers-per-game, averaging 10.5 miscues-per-contest. Entering Thursday's contest, Lewis is turning the ball over 11.3 times-per-game.

AND DISHING THE ROCK - As of December 17th, Lewis senior guard David Bryant (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) leads the country in assist/turnover ratio at 6.33 (19 assists, 3 turnovers). Entering Thursday's contest, Bryant has an assist/turnover ratio of 5.0 (25 assists, 5 turnovers).

HONORING HIS BROTHER - Bryant wears the number 12 in honor of his late brother Kevin who played for Trost at Illinois Wesleyan from 2004-06.

IRON MAN - Bryant has played in all 97 possible games for the Flyers in four seasons.

DOUBLE-DIGITS - Jackson is currently riding a 12-game streak of scoring 10 or more points.

DEFENSIVE CLAMPS - Lewis has held four opponents to under 50 points this season. The last time the Flyers held more than four teams to under 50 points, came during the 1985-86 campaign, when they did it six times.

DEFENSIVE CLAMPS (PART DEUX) - Lewis has held their last four opponents to under 40.0% shooting from the field. The last time they accomplished that feat in five-straight games came during the 2001-02 campaign.

DEFENSIVE CLAMPS (PART TROIS) - Lewis owns a GLVC-best scoring defense of 57.4 points-per-game and is second to Drury (.376) in field goal percentage defense (.380).

DEFENSIVE CLAMPS (PART QUATRE) - Lewis has a better three-point field goal percentage (.386) than their opponents total field goal percentage (.380).

MOVING UP THE CHARTS - Trost (108-76) needs five more wins to pass former Lewis head basketball coach and Director of Athletics Paul Ruddy (112-75) for fourth in school-history for career victories.
