Lewis Women's Basketball Hosts Kentucky Wesleyan Thursday

The Flyers tip-off against the Panthers at 5:30 PM at Neil Carey Arena.

Romeoville, Ill. -  First-place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division is on the line when the Lewis University women's basketball team (12-3, 5-2 GLVC) hosts Kentucky Wesleyan (10-4, 6-1) on Thursday (Jan. 24) at Neil Carey Arena. Tip-off is set for at 5:30 PM.

LAST TIME OUT - Sophomore Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) led the Flyers with 22 points and nine rebounds in the squad's 63-58 victory at UW-Parkside.  

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS - Co-head coaches Caleb and Nicole Neiman are in their third season at the helm of the Kentucky Wesleyan program. Lauren Goffinet, who is averaging 11.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.0 steals-per-game, leads the Panthers. KWC is heading to Romeoville after defeating Southern Indiana, 68-59, at home (Jan 21).

ALL TIME SERIES - The Flyers lead 40-14. 

LAST TIME WE MET - Last season, the squads upset each other on their home courts. KWC defeated Lewis at Neil Carey Arena, 75-59, (Dec. 3, 2011) while the Flyers defeated the Panthers at the Sportscenter, 80-64, (Feb. 9, 2012). Freshman guard Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) led all-scorers with 15 points and a quintet of Flyers in double figures in Kentucky.

LEWIS RECEIVES VOTES IN DII POLL - The Flyers received three votes for the second consecutive week in the USA TODAY Sports Division II Basketball Coaches Poll released on Tuesday (Jan. 22). 

NATIONAL RANKINGS - Lewis jumped into the top-10 in two categories in the NCAA national statistical rankings that were released on Tuesday (Jan. 22). The Flyers are No. 4 in three-point field-goal percentage (39.8%) and No. 6 in field-goal percentage (45.4%) in games through Jan. 20. 

GRAYER ON FIRE - Junior guard Alexus Grayer (Washington, Ill./Washington) has held onto No. 1 in the nation in three-point field-goal percentage (51.7%), averaging 2.1 made three-pointers per game. Grayer's numbers also lead the GLVC.

NELLEN NATIONALLY RANKED - Sophomore guard Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) is 22nd nationally, averaging 5.1 assists per game, which also second the conference.

ALL-TIMER - Senior Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) has moved up to No. 7 in school history with 83 blocks. Erin Cox (203-07) is sitting at No. 6 with 89 career blocks. Her team-leading 21 blocks is second in the GLVC. 

NUMBERS VS. THE GLVC - The Flyers top the GLVC in field-goal percentage (45.0%), three-point field-goal percentage (39.2%) and three-point field-goal defense (25.2%), and are second in scoring (74.3), three-point field-goal made (93 total, 6.2 average), assists (16.5 per-game average), and defensive rebounds (29.9 per-game average) in the GLVC. 

UNDERCLASSMEN LOGGIN' ON - The Flyers are an underclassmen laden squad, as the six sophomores and freshmen are averaging over 8.8 minutes per game. 

FEW TIMES TO THE LINE - The Flyers are 2-0 this season when they head to the line less than 10 times in a game. Lewis is second in overall in the GLVC in free throw attempts with 332 trips to the line. 

IT DOESN'T GET EASIER ... - The Flyers next two games come against newly ranked No. 23 Southern Indiana on Saturday (Jan. 26) and No. 15 Indianapolis on Thursday (Jan. 31).
