No. 14 Drury Shoots Their Way To 84-59 Win Over Lewis Men's Basketball

Panthers shoot a torrid 63.3% from the field; Nelson tops Flyers with 13 points.

The No. 14 Drury Panthers used a 21-9 run to open the second half and shot 63.3% (31-for-49) from the field to cruise their way to the 84-59 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the Lewis University men's basketball team at the O'Reilly Family Event Center on Thursday (Jan. 3) night.

Drury senior guard Brandon Lockhart led the charge for the Panthers during that stretch, as he scored 13 of his 17 points. Panther forward Ian Carter added a game-high 19 points, followed by 14 points and seven assists from senior guard Alex Hall and 13 points from Cameron Adams.

Entering the contest, Lewis had held their last four opponents to under 40.0% shooting.

"Drurry is a really talented and tough team with a lot of good players," Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "I thought we played well in the first half tonight, but in the second half, we didn't come out with enough urgency and intensity and (Drury) took it to us.

"We just have to keep working."

With the win, Drury improves to 8-2 on the campaign and 2-0 in conference play. Lewis' five-game winning streak comes to an end, as the Flyers fall to 6-3 on the season and 0-1 in GLVC action.

Lewis freshman forward Kyle Nelson (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and finished with a team-best 13 points and six rebounds. Junior guard Nick Valla (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) knocked down three treys to finish with 11 points.

Lewis' leading scorers Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) and Jeff Jarosz (Lyons, Ill./Morton) (Lyons, Ill./Morton) who combine to average 29.2 points-per-game, combined to shoot 1-for-9 from the floor and finish with five points.

Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 5), as they head to Rolla, Missouri to square off with Missouri S&T for a 3 PM tip-off.
