No. 14 Lewis Men's Soccer Ends Regular-Season With 4-0 Win Over UW-Parkside

The No. 14 Lewis University men's soccer team is peaking at the right time, as the Flyers, led by a goal and an assist from sophomore Robert Zieba (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) and freshman midfielder Ivan Surlina (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East), cruised to the 4-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over UW-Parkside on 'Senior Night' at Lewis Stadium on Wednesday (Oct. 30).

The Flyers also received scores from sophomore midfielder Luke Comerouski (Itasca, Ill./Christian Liberty Academy) and senior midfielder Lukasz Szczesniak (Skomielna Biala, Poland/Reavis ), while sophomore midfielder Lenin Roa-Tapia (Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates) pitched in two helpers on the evening.

"It was nice to have a clean sheet and four goals," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said. "I thought we played at a good pace."

With the win, Lewis improves to 12-1-4 on the campaign and 11-1-3 in GLVC action, while the visiting Rangers end 2013 with a record of 7-8-2 overall and 6-7-1 in conference play. Lewis has clinched home field for the GLVC First Round against a yet-to-be determined opponent at 12 PM on Sunday (Nov .3) afternoon.

Lewis goalkeepers Alec Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence ) and Omar Ramirez (Houston, Texas/Elsik) combined for the shutout, as they stopped eight Ranger shots on the evening. Pickett made five saves, while Ramirez turned away three. UW-Parkside keepers Marcos Perez and Remi Bibal had five saves - along with a Ranger team save .

Lewis outshot UW-Parkside, 21-14, including a 10-8 advantage in shots on goal.

"We did a lot of good things tonight that we'll need to do in the playoffs in order to get results," Fiffles said.
