Louisville, Ky. -
The nationally ranked defense of the No. 8 Lewis University men's soccer team helped keep the Flyers' unbeaten streak alive, as they battled host Bellarmine University to a 0-0 (2 OT) Great Lakes Valley Conference tie at O.B. Frazier Stadium on Friday (Oct. 4) night.

With the tie, the Flyers move to 6-0-3 on the campaign and 5-0-2 in GLVC action. They have not allowed a goal in their last 492:43 minutes played and their nine-game unbeaten streak is the Flyers' longest since they went 11 matches without a loss to begin the 2004 campaign. Entering Friday's contest, Lewis was sixth in the country, allowing a meager 0.45 goals-per-game.

Bellarmine is now 5-2-2 on the season and 3-2-2 in conference play.

"It was a great battle," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said. "Both teams had chances to win. I thought they had the better of the play in the first half, we had better in the second half and I thought it was equal in the overtimes. It was two good teams going at it tonight."

Lewis senior goalkeeper Alec Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence ) made five saves in goal for his fourth-straight shutout. He has not surrendered a goal in his last 456:33 minutes played. His counterpart Blake Hunter stopped four Flyer shots on the evening.

Lewis junior defender Michael Pyle (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) and sophomore midfielder Luke Comerouski (Itasca, Ill./Christian Liberty Academy) each recorded two shots on goal to lead the Flyers. As a team, Lewis outshot Bellarmine, 17-14, but the Knights notched five shots on frame to the Flyers' four.

Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Oct. 6), as the Flyers head to Lebanon, Ill., to square off with McKendree. First kick is set for 2:30 PM.
