No. 10 Lewis Women's Basketball Heads To Northern Michigan

Tip off for the Sunday (Nov. 24) contest is set for 1 PM ET at the Berry Events Center

Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 10 Lewis University women's basketball team heads on the road to take on Northern Michigan on Sunday (Nov. 24) with tip-off set for 1 PM ET at the Berry Events Center.

FLYING UP THE POLLS - In the Nov. 19 USA Today Sports Division II Top-25 Coaches Poll released by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, the Flyers flew up the ranks to No. 10. This is the Flyers' highest ranking since the 2006-07 season when they were the No. 7 team for two weeks (Jan. 30-Feb. 2).

LAST TIME WE FACED OFF – The Wildcats won the last match up 88-79 on Dec. 29, 2003, despite five Flyers scoring in double-figures. Shante Glenn led Lewis with 18 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Northern Michigan also leads the all-time series, 5-4.

LAST TIME ON THE COURT - Lewis extended their winning streak with a 73-68 victory at Upper Iowa on Nov. 17. Senior forward Lauren Mead (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) paced the Flyers with 22 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals while junior guard Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) dished out nine assists.

LEADING THE GLVC – Sophomore Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) is second the GLVC in rebounds (11.3 rbg) and blocked shots (3.7 bpg) and is third in scoring (19.3 ppg). Nellen leads the conference in assists, dishing out 7.3 assists-per-game while Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) is second averaging 7.0 assists-per-game. 

SOPHOMORE SHINING BRIGHT – Brawner-Henley is the first Flyer to average a double-double since Julie Fruendt completed the 1983-84 season averaging 18.9 points and 10.1 rebounds. 

AMONG THE CONFERENCE - Lewis ranks first in blocked shots, averaging 6.3 blocks-per-game and second in assists, dishing out 21.0 assists-per-game.  

ADDING TO THE PROGRAM – Lewis head women's basketball coach Lisa Carlsen announced on Monday (Nov. 18) the signing of guard Kayla Brewer (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee School of Languages) and forward Erica Correa (Davie, Fla./The Sagemont School) to National Letters of Intent to play for the Flyers in 2014-15 campaign.

MOST IMPROVED IN 2012-13 - The Flyers made the best turnaround in one season in Division II women's basketball, going from an eight-win year in 2011-12 to picking up 24 wins last year. 

2 IN 3 – The Flyers won the program's second GLVC Championship in three seasons, and fifth overall, with a 76-61 victory over Maryville on March 10, 2013, at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind. 

REINHART REWARDS - Junior forward Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) picked up Preseason Honorable Mention accolades from Women's Division II Bulletin. She was named 2013 GLVC Tournament Most Outstanding Player averaging 14.4 points and 7.2 rebounds-per-game last season. 

GLVC CHAMPIONSHIP RETURNS TO EVANSVILLE - The GLVC Women's Basketball Tournament will be held in Evansville, Ind., at the Ford Center from March 6-9, 2014.

PRESEASON POLL – The Flyers were selected as the preseason favorites to win the GLVC East Division title, picking up 11 first place votes in a poll of league coaches.
