Lewis Women’s Basketball Defeats St. Francis (Ill.) 74-56

Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University women's basketball team extended their home winning streak to 12 straight games when the Flyers defeated St. Francis (Ill.) 74-56 on Tuesday (Dec. 3) at Neil Carey Arena.
 
The Flyers improve to 4-2 on the year while the Saints fall to 3-8 on the campaign.
 
"It was important that we came out of the locker room with a high level of intensity," Lewis head women's basketball coach Lisa Carlsen said. "We were able to establish ourselves on the defensive end, which allowed us to get out and run offensively and create a cushion."
 
Lewis sophomore forward Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) posted a game-high 20 points and 15 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Junior forward Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) picked up 15 points and five rebounds while redshirt sophomore guard Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) turned in nine points, five assists and three steals for the Flyers.
 
As a squad, the Flyers tallied a season-high 11 steals and 49 rebounds against the Saints.
 
The Flyers were in control early, holding the Saints scoreless for almost five minutes to open the game to take a 10-0 lead. Lewis continued to press their fast-paced tempo on St. Francis to take a 22-point lead into the half, at 46-24.
 
In the second half, the Flyers pushed their lead to 26 points by the 8:03 mark when Brawner-Henley made a lay-up. The Saints were able to get as close as 16 points at 70-54 when Kaitlyn Ray hit a long-range three-pointer with 1:46 left in the game.
 
Redshirt freshman forward Alex Poole (Milwaukee, Wis./Menomonee Falls) scored the Flyers last four points of the game with a jumper and two free throws to push Lewis' lead back to 18 points, at 74-56.

The Saints were led by Ray's 14 points while Mary Rouse pulled down 11 rebounds.

The Flyers are back in action on Saturday (Dec. 7) when they host NAIA foe Purdue Calumet at Neil Carey Arena. Tip-off is set for 3 PM.
