Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's basketball team looks to snap a two-game losing streak, as the Flyers (11-7, 5-5 GLVC) welcome Saint Joseph's (5-12, 3-7 GLVC) on Saturday (Feb. 2) evening. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM at Neil Carey Arena.
Live stats, audio and video streaming of Saturday's game can be found at www.LewisFlyers.com. Saturday's contest can also be heard on WJOL (1340 AM) with Mark Vasko providing the play-by-play action for the Lewis Sports Network and WLRA (88.1 FM) with Jesse Hardacre and Scott Turek on the call.
LAST TIME OUT - Lewis was unable to overcome a season-high 18 turnovers, as No. 15 Indianapolis scored 23 points off the Flyer miscues on their way to the 71-64 GLVC victory at Nicoson Hall on Thursday (Jan. 31) night.
ALL-TIME SERIES - Since Lewis entered the Division II ranks, the Flyers hold a 45-25 advantage over Saint Joseph's in their all-time series.
LAST TIME WE MET - Lewis, led by 17 points from senior point guard
Chris McClellan (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Wheeling), used a stifling defense on their way to the 67-42 win over Saint Joseph's on February 18, 2012 at Neil Carey Arena. The Pumas shot 33.3% (18-for-54) from the floor.
MOVING UP THE CHARTS - With last week's victory over Kentucky Wesleyan, Lewis head men's basketball coach
Scott Trost (113-81) has claimed sole possession of fourth-place in school history for career wins by a Flyer coach.
TAKING CARE OF THE ROCK - Lewis has had six games of less than 10 turnovers this season. That's the most by a Flyer squad since they had 10 of those contests during the 2003-04 campaign.
TAKING CARE OF THE ROCK (PART DEUX) - Lewis currently has more assists (235) than turnovers (208) - which hasn't happened since the 2009-10 campaign.
IRON MAN - Senior guard
David Bryant (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) has played in all 107 possible games for the Flyers in four seasons.
HONORING HIS BROTHER - Bryant wears the number 12 in honor of his late brother Kevin who played for Trost at Illinois Wesleyan from 2004-06.
STREAK STOPPIN' - Lewis has not had a three-game losing streak since the 2009-10 campaign. Since that streak, the Flyers have had 11 two-game losing stretches.
KNOCKING THEM DOWN - Sophomore guard
Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) has converted his last 32 free throws.
LESS IS MORE - Lewis is 7-3 when Jackson scores 10 or fewer points during his career.
FOR CONTINUITY SAKE - Only six players have started at least one game for Lewis this season, giving the Flyers the fewest starting line-up combinations in the GLVC.
REBOUNDING ADVANTAGE - Lewis is 36-8 during Trost's tenure when they out-rebound their opponents by 10 or more.
BLOCK PARTY - Freshman forward
Kyle Nelson (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) currently leads the GLVC in blocked shots (33), which ties him for ninth in Lewis history for blocks for a season. The St. Charles, Ill., native needs three more swats to pass Tarrie Monroe (1999-2000) and move into sole possession of eighth-place in school history.
YOUNG GUNS - Lewis is the youngest team in the GLVC, as the Flyers have just two active upperclassmen on the roster and three total upperclassmen on the team. Quincy is next youngest squad with three active upperclassmen.
DEFENSIVE CLAMPS - Lewis has held four opponents to under 50 points this season. The last time the Flyers held more than four teams to under 50 points, came during the 1985-86 campaign, when they did it six times.
BIG WIN - Lewis' 35-point victory over Rockhurst on January 12th is the second time the Flyers have won by 35+ points this season. The last time they accomplished that feat three times came during the 2002-03 campaign.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE - Lewis has won its last six contests against Saint Joseph's at Neil Carey Arena.
FROM WAY DOWNTOWN - Dating back to last season, Bryant has hit at least one three-pointer in each of his last 19 contests.
