Lewis Women's Basketball Welcomes McKendree On Saturday

Tip-off is set for 5 PM at Neil Carey Arena

Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University women's basketball (17-5, 10-4 GLVC) team's eight-game home winning streak is put on the line when the Flyers host McKendree (7-15, 2-12 GLVC) on Saturday (Feb. 16) at Neil Carey Arena. Tip off is set for 5 PM.

Saturday's contest can also be heard on WJOL (1340 AM) and www.LewisFlyers.com with Mark Vasko providing the play-by-play action for the Lewis Sports Network. The game will also be broadcast on WLRA (88.1 FM).

LAST TIME OUT - Lewis stays in second-place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division after coming back from a 13-point second half deficit to defeat Bellarmine, 77-65, on Thursday (Feb. 14). Sophomore Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) led all-scorers with 22 points. Senior Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) scored 18 points, pulled down 8 rebounds and collected a season-high five steals. 

ALL TIME SERIES - The series is tied 1-1.

LAST TIME WE MET - The Flyers got 19 points each from senior Sam Rinehart (Marion, Iowa/Marion) and Murdock in the squad's 69-55 road victory at McKendree on Jan. 17. 

SAME STARTIN' FIVE - The Flyers can boast that their starting five has remained the same throughout the season.

LEWIS RECEIVES VOTES USA TODAY DII POLL - The Flyers received 21 votes in the Feb. 11 edition of the USA TODAY Sports Division II Basketball Coaches Poll. Last week, Lewis jumped into the poll at No. 24, (Feb. 5), after three straight weeks of receiving votes. The last time Lewis was nationally ranked was in the 2006-07 season.

NATIONAL RANKINGS - Lewis is third in three-point field goal defense, holding teams to 23.9% from beyond the arc, according the NCAA Statistical Rankings released on Friday (Feb. 15).  

STACKING UP AGAINST THE GLVC - Sophomore guard Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) is second in the GLVC with 4.7 (109 total) assists per game while junior guard Alexus Grayer (Washington, Ill./Washington) is second in three-point field goal percentage 42.3% (41-for-97).

TURNIN' IT AROUND - As of Feb. 15, Lewis and East Central (Ada, Okla.) have had the best turn-around in Division II women's basketball from last season. Both teams have earned 17 total wins this year.

ALL-TIMER - Murdock has moved into to a 6th-place in school history with 90 career blocks. Jackie Wayne (1987-91) is No. 5 all time with 97 career blocks. Murdock also became the Flyer's 19th member of the 1,000 Point Club, going over the plateau in the double overtime victory at Indianapolis on Jan. 13. She heads into Saturday's game with 1,053 total points.

NUMBERS VS. THE GLVC - The Flyers top the GLVC in scoring (72.8) and three-point field-goal defense (23.9%) and second in defensive rebounds (29.9 per-game average) and blocked shots (4.0 per-game average).

SOPHOMORE TOUCH - Reinhart is the first sophomore since the 2008-09 to lead the Flyers in scoring (14.2) and rebounds (7.1). In the 2008-09 season Jenny Turpel led the Flyers with 18.5 points and 6.9 rebounds-per-game.

THE COMEBACK - The Flyers 77-65 victory over Bellarmine on Feb. 14 was the second time this season that the squad erased 10-plus point deficit to win the game. The other time was in the team's 78-75 double overtime victory at Indianapolis on Jan. 31. 

HOME SWEET HOME - The Flyers' eight-game home win-streak, including a perfect 6-0 against GLVC teams, is the longest since the 2009-10 campaign where the squad dropped two games at Neil Carey Arena before going 11-0 to close out the season. 

GRAYER FROM BEYOND THE ARC - Grayer has tallied the 9th best single-season three-point field-goal percentage, shooting .423 (41-97). She also sits fourth all-time with a .389 three-point field-goal percentage (81-208). Amy Frey (97-99) is third with a .401 career three-point field-goal average (61-152).
