Late Free Throws Puts Lewis Women’s Basketball By Saint Joseph’s, 68-64

Rensselaer, Ind. – Senior guard Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) scored a season-high 20 points in the Lewis University women's basketball team's 68-64 victory over Saint Joseph's on Saturday (Feb. 23) at Scharf Fieldhouse. 
 
Murdock also tallied four assists, three rebounds and three steals in the contest. Sophomore forward Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) picked up her fifth double-double of the season, scoring 13 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. 
 
The Flyers improve to 20-5 on the season and 13-4 in GLVC action while the Pumas fall to 1-24 on the year and 0-17 in conference play.

“You have to give Saint Joseph's credit,” Lewis head women's basketball coach Lisa Carlsen said. “They came out ready to play us.
 
“Saint Joseph's was relentless and didn't play like a team that hadn't won a conference game.”
  
Saint Joseph's took advantage of Lewis' cold start to the game, building a 13-point lead at the 13:02 mark to go up 15-2 on a layup by Jasmyne Reynolds. 
 
In the last minute and 45 seconds of the first half, the Flyers went on a 8-2 run to get within two points at 30-28. Murdock hit two three-pointers while Reinhart made a layup during the run.
 
Murdock tied the game at 32-all with a layup at 17:45 in the second half that kick started a Lewis 14-1 run to take a 46-33 lead. Murdock also hit a three-pointer and made two layups to lead the Flyers run.
 
Saint Joseph's reclaimed the lead at the 3:00 minute mark to go up 62-61 on a Kiki Wilson three-pointer. 
 
Murdock answered with a three-pointer to give the Flyers a two-point lead, 64-62 with under two minutes left to play.
 
Senior Sam Rinehart (Marion, Iowa/Marion) (Marion, Iowa/Marion) hit four free throws in the last 13 seconds of the game to seal the 68-64 victory.
 
Tonisha Sanders led the Pumas with 18 points and 13 rebounds while Reynolds added 15 points and Wilson chipped in 14 points.
 
Lewis returns Neil Carey Arena to close out the regular season hosting UW-Parkside on Thursday (Feb. 28) at 5:30 PM. The Flyers' four seniors, Lauren Mead (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda), Hannah Koeneman (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan) (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan), Murdock and Rinehart, will be honored prior to the start of the game.
