Lewis Women's Basketball Hosts UW-Parkside Thursday on 'Senior Night'

Labrenthia Murdock, Sam Rinehart, Lauren Mead and Hannah Koeneman will be honored prior to the 5:30 PM tip.

The Flyers will host the rival Rangers on Thursday at Neil Carey Arena.

Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University women's basketball team (20-5, 13-4 GLVC) hosts UW-Parkside (18-7, 12-5 GLVC) on Thursday (Feb. 28) to close out the 2012-13 regular season at Neil Carey Arena.
    Seniors Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake), Sam Rinehart (Marion, Iowa/Marion), Lauren Mead (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) and Hannah Koeneman (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan) will be honored prior to the start of the game.  As the teams have both secured a place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference post-season tournament, the match-up will impact the placement of the top four seeds.

Thursday's contest can also be heard on WJOL (1340 AM) with Mark Vasko providing the play-by-play action for the Lewis Sports Network. The game will also be broadcast on WLRA (88.1 FM) with Marc Denson and B.J. Boldog on the call.
 
LAST TIME OUT - After coming back from a 13-point deficit in the first half, the Flyers built their own 13-point lead in the second half against Saint Joseph's on Feb. 23. Four late free throws by senior Sam Rinehart (Marion, Iowa/Marion) sealed the 68-64 victory to end a late surge by the Pumas.
 
ALL TIME SERIES - The Flyers hold a 35-21 lead.
 
LAST TIME WE MET - Sophomore Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic)  led the Flyers with 22 points and seven rebounds in the Flyers 63-58 victory at UW-Parkside on Jan. 21. Rinehart chipped in 13 points and nine rebounds.
 
SAME STARTIN' FIVE - The Flyers can boast that their starting five has remained the same throughout the season.
 
LEWIS RECEIVES VOTES USA TODAY DII POLL - The Flyers received 63 votes in the Feb. 26 edition of the USA TODAY Sports Division II Basketball Coaches Poll.
 
NATIONAL RANKINGS - Lewis is second the nation in three-point field goal defense, holding teams to 23.8% from beyond the arc, according the NCAA Statistical Rankings released on Monday (Feb. 25).
 
TO 20 WINS - Saturday's win over Saint Joseph's marks the first time the Flyers have won 20 games during the Lisa Carlsen era and first time since the 2006-07 season.
 
STACKING UP AGAINST THE GLVC - Sophomore Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) is second in the GLVC with 4.8 (119 total) assists per game while junior Alexus Grayer (Washington, Ill./Washington) leads the conference in three-point field goal percentage at 43.1% (47-for-109). Murdock is third with 31 total blocks, averaging 1.2 blocks-per-contest.
 
TURNIN' IT AROUND - As of Feb. 22, Lewis has had the best turn-around in Division II women's basketball from last season. After only winning eight games last season, the Flyers have won 20 contests.
 
ALL-TIMER - Murdock became the Flyer's 19th member of the 1,000 Point Club, going over the plateau in the double overtime victory at Indianapolis on Jan. 13. She heads into Thursday's game with 1,090 total points. Murdock has moved into to a 6th-place in school history with 93 career blocks. Jackie Wayne (1987-91) is No. 5 all-time with 97 career blocks.
 
NUMBERS VS. THE GLVC - The Flyers top the GLVC in scoring (72.3) and three-point field-goal defense (23.8%) defensive rebounds (30.0 per-game average) and second in three-point field-goal percentage (.346), assists (15.6 per-game average), and blocked shots (4.3 per-game average).
 
SOPHOMORE TOUCH - Reinhart is the first sophomore since the 2008-09 season to lead the Flyers in scoring (14.9) and rebounds (7.2). In the 2008-09 campaign, Jenny Turpel led the Flyers with 18.5 points and 6.9 rebounds-per-game.
 
THE COMEBACK - The Flyers' 68-64 win at Saint Joseph's (Feb. 23) was the third time this season Lewis erased a 10-plus point deficit to win the game. Lewis erased deficites against Bellarmine (77-65) on Feb. 14 and Indianapolis (78-75 2OT) on Jan. 31.
 
GRAYER FROM BEYOND THE ARC - Grayer currently has the ninth best single-season three-point field-goal percentage in Lewis history, shooting 42.5% (45-of-106). She also currently sits fourth all-time in program history with a 39.2% three-point field-goal percentage (85-of-217). Amy Frey (1997-99) is third with a 40.1% career three-point field-goal average (61-of-152).
 
REGIONAL RANKINGS - Lewis stays in third out of 10 teams in the NCAA Midwest Region rankings that was released by the NCAA on Wednesday (Feb. 27). The next rankings will be released on March 6. The top eight teams will earn bids to the regional tournament.
