The No. 37 Lews University women's tennis team made quick work of Lake Superior State, as the Flyers only lost 34 games on their way to the 9-0 regional sweep over the visiting Lakers at Challenge Fitness on Thursday (Feb. 28).

"We made improvements from last weeks match to this one which is what we want to do," Lewis head women's coach Brett Bridel said.  "We are, however, still resorting to some bad habits in the pressure situations.

"Overall it was a very good job by the ladies today," Bridel continued. "I thought we played better in all three doubles matches and everyone got off to really good starts to their singles matches and finished strong."

With the win, Lewis improves to 2-0, while the Lakers fall to 11-12 on the season.

Lewis juniors Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) and Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) opened the match with an 8-1 win over Lake Superior State's Erin Anderson-Scott and Sarah Awe. Lanstiak added a 6-0, 6-2 win over Anderson-Scott at No. 1 singles, while Kranczicki rolled past Awe for the 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 2 singles.

At No. 2 doubles, Flyer sophomore Brianna Markgraf (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) and freshman Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) claimed the 8-5 win over Teodora Gavin and Lucy LaCosta. Margraf upended LaCosta, 6-1, 1-6, 10-6, at No. 5 singles, while Nguyen earned the 6-2, 6-0 win over Kaitlynn Hutchinson.

Lewis' Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and Jill Wetmore (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) picked up the 8-5 win over Holly Daniel and Hutchinson at No. 3 doubles. Mills was also victorious at No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Gavic, while Wetmore was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Daniel at No. 4 singles.

Lewis returns to action on March 5th, as the Flyers meet No. 11 Francis Marion for a 2:30 PM first serve.
