No. 41 Lewis Women's Tennis Cruises Past St. Francis (Ill.), 8-1

Flyers lose seven games for entire match.

The trio of Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium), Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) and Jill Wetmore (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) did not lose a game, as the No. 41 Lewis University women's tennis team breezed to the 8-1 non-conference victory over local rival St. Francis (Ill.) at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex on Thursday (March 28) afternoon.

"We played pretty well today," Lewis head women's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "We got off to a good start in doubles and that always bodes well for us. We carried that momentum into singles and I thought we played smart, good tennis and that showed in our scores."

With the victory, Lewis improves to 4-3 overall, while the visiting Fighting Saints are now 9-5.

Lanstiak teamed up with Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) at No. 1 doubles for the 8-0 win over Princess Clemente and Anne-Christine Tompkins. Lanstiak cruised to the 6-0, 6-0 win over Clemente at No. 1 singles, while Kranczicki added the 6-0, 6-2 win against Tompkins at No. 2 singles.

At No. 2 doubles, Wetmore and Nguyen paired up for the 8-0 triumph over Leah Fuessel and Heather Storm. Nguyen blanked Fuessel, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles, while Wetmore whitewashed Storm, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles.

Lewis junior Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill./York) (Elmhurst, Ill./York) also picked up two victories for the Flyers. Mills matched up with sophomore Brianna Markgraf (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) at No. 3 doubles for the 8-2 win over Devan Trueba and Ewelina Szwed. Mills was also victorious at No. 5 singles with the 6-1, 6-2 win over Trueba.

Lewis returns to action on Friday (March 29), as the Flyers head to Rensselaer, Ind., to square off with Saint Joseph's for a 2 PM first serve.
